What are the highlights of The British Music Experience?

This independent museum has a diverse collection of memorabilia, stage costumes and instruments from world-renowned musicians, such as Freddie Mercury, the Spice Girls, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. It even has hand-written lyrics, artworks and video footage in its archives. It’s the only collection in the world to chart the evolution of British pop music.

If you want to learn an instrument, step into the Gibson Interactive Studio. You’ll have access to the best instruments on the market, including drums, guitars and keyboards. No matter your age, you'll be able to learn song after song through video lessons. There's even a vocal booth for you to hone your singing skills.

At the Dance of the Decades studio, you can practice your moves on the dance floor. A virtual teacher will show you all the different popular dance moves over the years as you hit the dancefloor to practice. If you’re up for it, use the studio’s phone holder to film your moves.

What else can you do at The British Music Experience?

The British Music Experience hosts a myriad of workshops where you can explore music genres such as hip-hop and pop. In one workshop, for instance, you'll learn about what Shakespeare has in common with rappers.

If you want to grab a bite, head off to the café in their foyer, which is open to the general public. That means you don’t have to get a ticket to enter here. Feeling peckish? Find a wide variety of freshly baked goods from Cuthbert’s.

After your trip, head off to the merch shop to get some souvenirs. You can get your hands on memorabilia, band T-shirts, books and vinyl records.

Things to know before visiting The British Music Experience?

The main entrance to BME is on Canada Boulevard. If you’re going on public transport, take a train to Liverpool Lime Street. Multiple train services, including London Midland and Northern Rail, can drop you off at the station. You can reach the museum by bus, too – James Street and Moorfields stations are your drop-off points.

Book a ticket in advance to get a complimentary audio guide. Children under 5 can enter free of charge, while seniors and persons with disabilities get special discounts. Every ticket is valid for an entire year. That means you can return to the museum as many times as you want within that period.

Guests usually take an hour or 2 to go through all the various experiences. However, you're free to stay as long as you want.
