Staying at the Hotel Victor Hugo was an absolute pleasure. The building is lovely and quaint. The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel owner, Gilles, is personable, friendly, fluent in English, and a great conversationalist. His little dog, Marius, is a joy and greeted my wife at our door every morning when we emerged for breakfast.
In the breakfast room, there is a sign in French and English thanking you for feeding neither Marius, the dog, nor Gilles, the owner.
Take note that the hotel is modest—if you are looking for opulence and all the amenities, this is not it. But if you want an authentic, human experience, good conversation over breakfast, and a taste of old-world Nice, you’ll love it. We did. We would absolutely stay there again.
