This was a wonderful place to stay. Nothing can beat a private balcony Onsen/hot tub with ocean views, and the hills as well. The breakfast buffet was outstanding as well.

10/10 Exceptional

Only stayed for one night for the private onsen experience & it was fantastic. Staff, hotel restaurant buffets were excellent. Only disappointment with the hotel was the beds - I booked a large room w/ western style twin beds but the beds were mattresses on a 4" raised platform Beds were comfortable but having bad knees & a sore back made it very difficult to get on/off them. Hubby & I had a good laugh rolling & crawling. There are really no attractions nearby - the botanical garden is in very sad condition but there is a 7-11 across the street and a great ramen restaurant down the street. It seems as though people come to this part of the city strictly to experience the onsen. We would probably stay here again just for that.

Our stay at Yunokawa Prince
We opted to have a room with an onsen. The room size, in comparison to other places we statyed in Japan was very large and tons of room. The onsen and shower were on the balcony which interesting. The staff was very pleasant but obviously their engllish was only okay. There is not a lot of activities to do in the area. Mega Don Quiote was about 25 minutes away. There was a golf course nearby but it was too cold to consider. The hotel has two restaurants. We opted for Nagisa. It has a dinner buffet for 6600 yen and breakfast buffet which was included in our stay. Nagisa has an aawesome variety of Japanese and Western food. The food was amazing and high quality. This hotel, in my opinion, is not for long stays. But it all depends on what you want. If we go back to Hakodate, we will definitely consider statying at Yunokawa again!!!

2/10 Poor

Inflexible staff and service
The hotel was alright. Good in-room onsen facility facing the ocean. The deal breaker though, the staff and service were horrendous and the worst of our entire trip in Japan (out of 8 hotels). The most inflexible hotel and staff ever, almost like conversing to ‘robots’ and nobody at front desk was able to speak any English. We brought our 14 years old kid as 3rd occupant, they charged us 50% of the room price we paid. We asked for 1-hr late check out because our flight is extended by another hour, they wanted to charge extra 3,300 JPY. We asked for hotel to book a bigger taxi to bring 3 luggages to airport, staff said must order 2 taxis. I refused and just grabbed the sedan taxi, thinking out of the box, I could fit all 3 luggages into 1 taxi. None of the staff was able to give any recommendation or solution, hence they’re just very ‘robotic’. This hotel was our last stay in Hokkaido, and it left us bitter experience unlike all other previous stays in Hokkaido. The first staying in this hotel & is definitely the last one.

Private onsen was amazing. Great buffet breakfast with lots of food choices. However the bed mattress isn’t very comfortable. I feel I needed the onsen to undo the soreness of my back after I woke up. Was that intentional? If the hotel can get better mattresses, it would be a solid product.

Its pleasantly large room. Nice design though I wouldnt say it was worth the rate we paid. I've been to pther ryokan with same price with private onsen. But overall it was pleasant. Good staff service.
