I visited the property the day after booking, 4 days before check-in, as I was in the neighborhood. I discovered the entire width of the street was torn up a giant hole not minor construction, And over half of the length of the whole street, and the sidewalks were barricaded and rough and there was no way to get a vehicle near the door, I have back problems and would not be able to carry my suitcases alone the distance. Additionally, the neighborhood is so-so re safety. I did not feel comfortable attempting that alone at 4 PM and they would not offer early check-in. I contacted both Expedia and the residence to request a cancellation and refund.I followed their instructions and spent 3 hours calling providing photos, etc. and although each agreed that this was an issue, they refused to provide any refund or alternative. There is no way that I would book through Expedia again as they offered absolutely no protection and did not side with me even after agreeing with each of my points. Also, the amount of the refundable deposit is excessive. The room itself seems very new and was quite nice, although a little strange because there are two barstools but no bar or table even though there is a kitchenette; the only surfaces are 2 very tiny nesting end tables. But regarding the original snafu, I am completely dissatisfied with both Expedia and the hotel’s unwillingness to resolve the issue . They contended that because I had already paid. It was too late. Horrible.
