Great overall

Stayed recently and overall had a really good experience. The hotel and room were exactly as expected clean, tidy, well presented and very comfortable. Staff were genuinely pleasant and helpful throughout the stay, which made a difference. The location is excellent, with some lovely outdoor seating areas, and parking was straightforward with a car park just underneath the building. However, breakfast let things down a bit. There were quite a few issues with availability. Basic items like sausages and bacon weren’t great quality, and trays weren’t topped up, so most of the continental options were gone early. Pancake machine was out of action and oddly, there weren’t any mugs available at any of the coffee stations. On the bright side, the pastries were fresh and the toast toppings were well stocked. Dinner at the hotel restaurant the night before was excellent though, which made the breakfast situation even more surprising. All in all, a solid stay and I’d return, but I’d skip the breakfast next time unless things improve.

Fairly new hotel & clean. Bed comfortable. Room serviced daily. Shower =rain shower & a body spray. Breakfast disapointing. Scrambled eggs made with powdered egg. You could order other eggs & hash browns e.g poached/fried etc but this is not advertised & is very slow to arrive Yoghurt but no fruit to accompany it apart from sliced melon & prunes??

Pleasant stay

Booked 3 nights B&B in a premium seaview room, decent size room in good decorative order and vry clean with a nice large bed. Also had a coffee machine and fridge. Breakfast was a little chaotic, its a very busy hotel and there were a decent amount of staff but it just seemed like they were running around achieving little with food items constantly running out. The continental selection wasnt great and could have done with more variety on cereals and fresh fruit. It also seems strnge that fried eggs and hash browns had to be ordered separately. The bar area has a very nice outside area with some impressive planting. Overall it was great value for money and we enjoyed our stay.

Very new building right on the sea front. Staff are excellent, especially one really friendly person named Alex, I’d return just to talk to him 😊. Rooms are in excellent condition with all of the tea and coffee facilities, as well as soft drinks in the mini bar. Unfortunately when we arrived the rest was too busy to accommodate us, but there were plenty of places to eat nearby.

Hotel was of a high standard but the service did not match the hotel. All I keep hearing was sorry for the delay. The lady running the restaurant was doing her best but was struggling. Reception told me they would try to get the cars moved from the charging bays that was not electric and call me so I could charge mine but never did

Lovely family stay

We had a lovely family trip at this hotel. We requested a cot and this was already in our room when we checked in. The buffet breakfast was fantastic and the location was perfect. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Nice modern hotel in great location. Room wasnt available/ready on check-in at 15.00 so had to wait. Breakfast was good but chaotic as plates glasses not replenished, not enough staff and untrained. They also ran out of several breakfast items.

Enjoyed my stay. I booked this as a little get away for a long weekend. The staff were all friendly and approachable and could ntk do enough to help. The room was ideal for what we need, the bed was huge. My only downside was there was no fresh air in the room just Aircon which was not the best as the room became very stuffy and it was not even the hight of summer.

So many extra costs…

We’ve been coming to Paignton for as long as I can remember. This time, we decided to try something new and booked the Mercure — it was exciting to stay somewhere different, and finding a big, dog-friendly hotel felt like a real win. Previously, we’d always stayed in good old-fashioned B&Bs. I booked through Hotels.com, which was straightforward enough. However, on arrival, we were told there was an additional charge of £15 per dog, per day. This hadn’t been mentioned during booking, and I was furious — it was a cost we hadn’t budgeted for. We reluctantly paid it, but it left a bad taste before our stay had even really begun. There’s also a £15 per day parking charge (again, not made clear at booking, but we had seen mentions of it in reviews). Thankfully, we managed to park on the road each day and avoid this extra fee. At first glance, the room seemed lovely — comfy bed, big TV, fantastic shower, and a generous amount of space. It had a bit of a ‘luxury’ feel. However, it quickly became obvious that the rooms are quite neglected. There were marks and stains on the furniture and walls, and the bathroom grouting needed a serious scrub. It was overall clean enough, but definitely lacked attention to detail. One of the big questions we had was: what does the £15 per day dog fee actually cover? We were told our room would be serviced daily, which sounded good — but all that really meant was fresh towels and a tucked-in duvet. For the extra cost, we would have expected much m
