Mississippi is a Southern state that has played many vital roles in America’s history. Today, it’s mostly known for its thriving music scene, especially Delta blues. Fans of Elvis Presley often visit Tupelo, which is the birthplace of the American “King of Rock and Roll”. Indianola is the hometown of B.B. King, who created one of the earliest-known styles of blues music in the US.
There’s plenty of preserved history throughout Mississippi, one of which is the Vicksburg National Military Park – this famed battlefield was where the Civil War's Battle of Vicksburg took place in 1863. If you prefer the great outdoors, plan a visit to the 1,530-acre Tishomingo State Park. Located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, it’s a unique landscape of sandstone canyons, sports facilities, heritage cottages, hiking paths, and picnic pavilions.
