Everybody at the Old Cannon Brewery were amazingly friendly and welcoming but the rooms were awful. There is no sound insulation between the rooms so the sound, from the room next door, of coughing, spitting, flushing the toilet, opening and closing the shower doors, switching the bathroom light on and off and the extractor fan, we could hear it all.
During the night the heating switches off, and with no double glazing, it leaves the room icy cold. With a very heavy duvet, one is left alternatively sweating or freezing. Unfortunately when disappointment is the main emotion when staying in a hotel, it's human nature to notice other problems. Like the door from the bar to the outside, continually slamming shut. Obviously not a problem during the day or early evening, but if you're not a nightbird with an early start, the banging becomes an interminable annoyance.
A major inconvenience is parking, with none available at the property and no permits made available by the property for the streets outside. I'm afraid being told there's a car park 10 minutes walk away is not what you want to hear after a 3 hour drive to get there! I was born in Bury and hate to criticise anything about it, but we'll never stay at the Old Cannon Brewery again!
