Overall, we enjoyed our stay and found the hotel to be enjoyable. The rooms were really pretty, great bathrooms! it was quiet and the beds were comfortable (but the sheets weren't as soft as I expected). The renovation that has been done since hurricane Maria is very high quality. The resort is large and has a lot going on, especially for families. The staff was nice and mostly very helpful.
We did have some experiences where we waited a long time or the staff did not seem well trained. I was frustrated that the waitress at the Palomino beach didn't seem to attend to us, while I saw her going to others on the beach. In fact, when my husband went and asked about making an order she sent him to the main bar- rather than offering to take his order!? Yet, we had Francisco at the pool bar and he was great! He took our order, brought everything timely, checked back, etc. All the things you expect!
On more than one occasion I waited at the reception for several minutes while they helped a guest, in each situation it was just way too much time for something that could have been handled more efficiently. I'm sure they are trained to give people the time they need, but the flip of that is other people standing around waiting. There is a way to ensure that guests are prepped for check out, so that they are not at the desk for up to 10 minutes scrutinizing a bill while 10 people stand waiting in line.
If you want/like a fancy resort for the standard pool and beach option, this is nice.
