Hotel over booked themselves and cancelled my reservation since we were the last to arrive that day. Imagine our surprise when we show up at midnight after an 8 hour drive to find out they gave our room away to someone else.
Person working behind the counter said it is common practice for hotel to give away reservations to others if them seem necessary. Person working behind the counter was very rude, granted it wasnt his fault the reservation was cancelled and I caused quite the fuss.
Imagine the famous reservation scene from Seinfeld, this was almost identical to that.
2 hours later we found a hotel, we heard from the other hotels, and I mean all 5 we went to, that this La Quinta is known for just giving your reservations away whenever they feel like it. The hotel lobby was nice, but I would be cautious when booking that there is a strong possibility that you may not have a room when you arrive. I strongly think that during busy times the cancel the cheaper hotel rates and replace them with higher paying rates. I had booked the hotel about 3 weeks prior.
An odd turn of events prior to the night of our stay is that I received a call from the hotel 2 days before to our stay asking if we were still staying that night and they just wanted to confirm we were, which I confirmed for them. It was strange at the time, but I didnt put much thought into it until the cancellation. So if you receive a call prior to your stay, you might want to keep verifying that you'll still
