Lagos' Centro Histórico captivates with cobblestone streets winding past 16th-century walls and golden churches adorned with azulejo tiles. The haunting former slave market stands as a sobering historical monument while ancient fortifications frame stunning harbor views. Traditional tavernas serve fresh seafood and local specialties between historic explorations and cultural discoveries.
Highly walkable streets limit vehicle access, making this neighborhood perfect for leisurely exploration. Family-run restaurants and waterfront cafés offer authentic Portuguese flavors while boutique hotels in converted historic buildings provide charming accommodations with old-world character.
Porto de Mós wraps you in a golden sand dream framed by dramatic ochre cliffs that practically beg to be photographed. This peaceful pocket of the Algarve offers the perfect escape from Lagos' busier spots with scenic coastal trails winding along the Atlantic. The Ponta da Piedade lighthouse stands watch nearby, while the protected cove below creates ideal swimming conditions for beach lovers.
The neighborhood serves up fresh seafood at beachfront restaurants where you can watch the sunset paint the cliffs. Modern holiday apartments and villas with sea views make up most accommodations, though public transport is limited so having a car is smart. Beach season brings the area to life, but even then, you'll find plenty of quiet spots along the coastal paths.
Ameijeira gives you the best of both worlds in Lagos—calm residential streets just a short stroll from stunning beaches. Walk to Praia da Batata or Praia do Pinhão for golden sands and azure waters without the tourist crush. The neighborhood feels authentically Portuguese with its whitewashed homes and terracotta roofs, perfect for travelers who want local flavor.
You'll need to head into Lagos center for restaurants and shopping, just 15-20 minutes away on foot. Most accommodations here are upscale vacation rentals and private villas with pools, ideal for those seeking a peaceful home base with easy beach access.
Whether you want to collect beach glass or watch the sunset, Praia da Luz is a spot you might want to check out, located 3.1 mi (5.1 km) from central Lagos. Our travelers also like this walkable area for its beaches. Catch the sunset by the shore at Luz Beach, just a short walk away.
You can stroll along Marina de Lagos for relaxing water views when you're in Marina de Lagos. Hotels.com travelers also say the area is full of friendly people and has lots of nice beaches. If you carry on walking you'll get to Meia Beach, Batata Beach, and Pinhao Beach for some more water views.
Whether you want to hunt for sand dollars or smell the fresh air, Dona Ana Beach is a spot you might want to check out, located 0.8 mi (1.3 km) from central Lagos. Enjoy the sunset by the shore at Camilo Beach, Batata Beach, and Pinhao Beach, all 3 within a short walk.
Whether you want to collect beach glass or watch the sunset, Camilo Beach is a spot you might want to check out, located 1.1 mi (1.8 km) from central São Gonçalo de Lagos. Enjoy the sunset by the shore at Dona Ana Beach, Pinhao Beach, and Praia do Barranco do Martinho, all 3 within a short walk.
If you're planning a bit of sightseeing head to Ponta da Piedade Lagos Lighthouse— just one of the monuments in Torralta. Hotels.com travelers also say the area is walkable and has lots of nice beaches.
If you can't wait to get to the beach, you might enjoy a trip to Meia Beach in the heart of Meia Praia. If you want to continue walking by the waves, head to Batata Beach and Student Beach, both within a short walk.
It's feeding time at the zoo! If you want to be reminded of some of the great animals our world is home to, you might want to pay a trip to Lagos Zoo, located 1.8 mi (2.9 km) from central Bensafrim e Barão de São João. Hotels.com travelers also say the area is walkable and has lots of nice beaches. If you'd also like to explore some of the parks in Bensafrim e Barão de São João, head to Alvor Boardwalk.
When the beach is calling your name, you might want to head down to Batata Beach, located 0.4 mi (0.7 km) from central Lagos. Enjoy the sunset by the shore at Meia Beach, Dona Ana Beach, and Pinhao Beach, all 3 within a short walk.
Beneath limestone cliffs, this Algarve gem invites exploration of its historic old town where narrow cobblestone streets wind between whitewashed buildings adorned with blue tiles. Climb to the clifftop castle for Atlantic panoramas that explain why explorers once set sail from these shores. Praia do Camilo and Dona Ana Beach offer perfect swimming coves framed by golden rock formations. Don't miss Ponta da Piedade, where boat tours navigate through sea arches and grottoes sculpted by centuries of waves. Summer brings vibrant nightlife to the marina area, while seafood restaurants serve the day's catch year-round. Visit the municipal market for local flavors, then join locals for sunset drinks overlooking the harbor where Henry the Navigator once planned his voyages.
What a wonderful experience. An excellent staff (Vítor, Beatrix, Francisco in particular - but all were excellent and friendly) They all went out of their way to make us feel welcome - Vítor even got in the car with my husband to show us where the municipal parking was and he always greeted us by name when we came in and out. The location was excellent, right in the heart of town and yet the room was quiet - never heard any noise. And breakfast every morning was delicious. We tried something...

Someone put a lot of thought and planning into their guest’s comfort. There were community tables on each floor with wet wipes, sunscreen, lotion -anything you might need and have forgotten. Room fridges had complimentary beer and water.
While you can’t walk from the location into town, it’s a short taxi/Uber ride. If you exit your room from back of property, Aldi’s is a few steps away which was very convenient. Excellent breakfast

We stayed a quick 3 days and had a blast. Everyone was super friendly and inviting, breakfast was awesome, quick walk to the beach and a number of great restaurants, plus we were super excited for one of the better small hotel gyms we've been in - if your hotel has barbells and weights over 20kg, they're doing something right :)
We'll certainly be recommending Lagos Atlantic to others and will hopefully be back in the future for more than just a few days!

The building has a lot of charm. Plants, flowers and classic Portuguese interior design. It feels you are in a farmhouse, not in a hotel. The breakfast was great with so many options. The attic room where we stayed was so spacious, with a huge bathroom and a private terrace. I'd point out that they gave us combined twin beds and not a queen/king bad, which wasn't ideal. Also, the listing mention that they have three pools which is not true. There is only one pool available. The other images are...

We stayed here as a family of four (kids 17 & 18). At first it was a little hard to find our apartment without a reception area, but once we did we were very happy with the accommodations. We stayed in a two bedroom. The unit had two balconies on the second floor. One overlooking the pool and one looking out towards the city. The unit was clean with a big bathroom with a shower. One room had a double/queen sized bed and the other two singles. The primary bedroom had a safe for valuables. ...

The hotel is well located, very walkable, and very convenient- it is right across from the bridge to the marina for tours and very walkable to a range of shops and restaurants. 4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Lagos
Book for the cheapest times: Lagos is an affordable destination on a budget, especially in January, February, and November when hotel prices may drop to lower prices. For a great value for money trip, plan to stay at least 4 to 5 days to explore key landmarks, historical sites, and cultural attractions, including beaches, marinas, monuments, sightseeing spots, family-friendly areas, romantic settings, cafes, tours, and relaxing walking paths. This budget-friendly visit allows you to experience Lagos' rich culture and history without breaking the bank.
Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: You may discover discounted hotel rates in Lagos by exploring Hotels.com's Deals and Last-Minute Dealsopens in new window sections. To stay informed on flash sales and special last-minute promotions, enable email alerts or push notifications. Hotels.com keeps you updated on your favorite hotels, and with the Smart Shopping tool via the app, you're more likely to see comparisons of hotel prices and amenities. This approach may help you find a luxury hotel deal in Lagos for a last-minute getaway.
Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate based on factors like the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so being flexible with your travel dates could help you find better rates for your stay in a Lagos hotel. For those seeking unique accommodations, boutique hotels often provide a more personalized experience and might offer better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we’ll inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price is on the higher end, we will suggest alternative dates that could potentially help you find a more affordable option.
Consider your location: Hotels near the city center usually tend to cost more. However, thanks to Lagos's excellent public transportation links, you might find that a more affordable independent hotel further out is still well connected. For those interested in exploring alternative, less crowded neighborhoods—or even lesser-known nearby cities—there is often excellent value for money. Choosing these alternative destinations could offer a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
