Our first visit to Algiers. Hotel Suisse is in the city center, very close to everything we wanted to see and walk to. We arrived very late at night because of a late flight. The concierge was waiting for us and made it easy for us to get settled. All through our stay, the desk staff was helpful. They made sure we got our messages from our Algerian guide, they were polite, we made our limited language skills work, they had a good sense of humor. The beds were comfortable and we slept quite well.The room was clean, well cared for but modest in size, the bathroom was spacious and we had great water pressure. We were able to keep the temperature comfortable and we also had French doors that opened to a small balcony. (Note: we were there in January) Every morning we had a typical "petit dejeuner" breakfast in a spacious breakfast room. I ate delicious fresh oranges, yogurt, croissants and hard boiled eggs. They also had a spread of other pastries as well as some local sliced sausages and cheese, which did not appeal to me. And very good coffee. The hotel had a bar that seemed busy every night (which we did not visit) and an elevator (tiny.) We had everything we needed, we felt safe, we slept well and we were in a very typical Algiers neighborhood. There are lots of hotels in Algiers, as well as some 5 star western style hotels, and generally expensive; Hotel Suisse is definitely on the budget end of the spectrum but we thought it was quite nice and we're glad we chose it.
