Price was right. Breakfast was included. Room was impeccably clean. Well located in the old town - about a 1/2 mile walk from the rail station.

Nightmare
A Nightmare in Disguise: Avoid This Unsafe and Creepy Hotel I recently had the unfortunate experience of booking a stay at what can only be described as a nightmare in the form of a hotel. This establishment, left me feeling unsafe, disgusted, and eager to escape within an hour of checking in. Allow me to share the details of this disastrous encounter. First and foremost, the lack of basic safety measures was alarming. To my disbelief, this hotel had no elevators, forcing guests to climb up treacherous flights of stairs. These stairs were in such a deplorable state that I feared they might crumble beneath my feet at any moment. It was clear that maintenance was not a priority here. The overall cleanliness of the hotel was equally appalling. The hallways were dimly lit, creating an eerie atmosphere that made me question my decision to stay there. The carpets were stained and sticky, showcasing a complete disregard for hygiene. The room itself was no better; the bedding appeared to have not been changed, and the bathroom was in dire need of a thorough cleaning. The staff's attitude only added to the nightmarish experience. From the moment I walked through the door, I was met with indifference and rudeness. It seemed as though the concept of hospitality was foreign to the employees. Our inquiries and concerns were met with dismissive responses, leaving us feeling ignored and unimportant. As the minutes ticked by, I realized that this hotel was not a place I could endure for min

Fine historic option for an evening
Very historical hotel, with everything that comes with that distinction. Overall, it was an interesting stay, fine option. But I will definitely remember the hole in the wall and the sloping stairwell. I booked 2 rooms very last minute, so I can't complain. My brother stayed in the Napoleon Suite, which was quite cool. So don't expect mod-cons. And big warning for those coming back to the hotel at night if you are staying in the section accessed by the spiral staircase - learn how to get from the evening backdoor through to your room. It's not straightforward and led to some very irritated people. We were alerted to needing to use a different door, but the front desk attendant never told us how to get to our side of the hotel after using that back door. Interesting decor really builds the aesthetic

Would never stay here again. Walls are paper thin, and the room doors had to be slammed shut. Shower wouldnt t drain and had to be shut off multiple times while showering so it wouldn’t flood. The room overall just felt gross.

Historical Inn
The hotel is very conveniently located to city center and walking distance to the Mosel waterfront. Restaurants and pubs close by, however the hotel is very old so it’s a bit difficult to negotiate the stairs and small spaces. It is a very historical building and the furniture is all antique. That is fine if you can accommodate it but it’s a bit challenging if that is not your expectation. My room was a bit damp and musty and because the room was located near the kitchen there was a food smell. This hotel would not be my first choice for the area.

The not so charming tourist trap.
I felt misguided by the booking information, and apparently the so-called annex was not adjacent to the old and charming building in the pictures, but is exactly 450 meters out of town adjacent to a road with heavy traffic. The service was quick, efficient and not very hearty. This is a tourist trap and we were merely cattle that had to be accommodated with as little fuss as possible. Cochem has some lovely streets, good wine, great views and a marvelous castle, and luckily and probably most importantly, it has alternatives to the Alte Thorschenke.

We had a great one-night stay at Alte Thorschenke. The hotel has a historic and classic German vibe, which is exactly what we were looking for. The original portion of the hotel was built in 1322! The beds are comfortable, the staff very welcoming and helpful, breakfast was included that was a very nice touch. I would definitely return!
