Family-owned little hotel in a convenient location

This hotel with a strange name is a little family-run place, where we happened to stay for three nights during Christmas. The taxi, however, identified the address without problem as the street is rather well-known to people; it is a few blocks away from red light district. We were warmly welcomed by Rachel (who is originally from Wisconsin) and her husband, and introduced to a room on the second floor up the little steep stairway. For the old construction of this area, however, it must be usual. The room was not spacious but efficiently arranged and quite clean. As it was not facing the street, we were able to spend quiet nights. Breakfast was very satisfactory for the start of the morning and Rachel served a very helpful concierge for everything like how to buy tram tickets and what was the best way to save money for the use of public transportations and where to eat. We were able to meet with their little lovely daughter Sophia, and grandparents who live in Rotterdam, because it was Christmas. A very nice family. There are numerous eating places in the area including European, Chinese and even Indonesian restaurants and many pubs. The subway station is 2 minutes away also. This hotel is highly recommended for those who like to touch with the warm family atmosphere and to enjoy the downtown crowd.

Good location, great hospitality

The hotel was in a great location to allow us to walk to everything we wanted to see in Amsterdam. It was clean and a very unique hotel. Due to a local festival happening during our stay, it was a bit loud and the stairs to the room were very steep and narrow. However, it address to the charm and experience rather than detracting from it. The biggest thing is the people who work at the hotel. Every person we encountered was so helpful and friendly. They carried our luggage to and from our room, greeted us everytime we walked in, helped with drink choices at the bar, and explained the hotel and area. Rachel was especially helpful and went above and beyond to help me enjoy my time in Amsterdam. I cannot say enough about their hospitality!

The hotel is situated on the edge of the Red light district which was great and metro is 1 min walk away which is great. Main attractions are close by and easy to get to, area is very safe. Hotel is very quirky with the cocktail bar downstairs as you enter and bedrooms on the next three floors, note stairs are steep as per website. Breakfast was first class and catered for gluten and lactose free. Our fridge in the room was restocked daily at no cost, that is a first for us. We had the room with a view of the courtyard which was quiet and ideal. One thing I would recommend to the hotel is when you are greeted a street map of Amsterdam would have been good, we picked one up on our last day at the Rembrandt museum. Overall a very good stay and thankyou for a wonderful time

Hyggeligt, specielt og yderst luksuriøst minihotel midt i orkanens øje i Amsterdam. Dejligt værelse, rent, flot og stort badeværelse taget i betragtning af husets størrelse. I travel a lot and generally stay at larger hotels but this was a private trip and we wanted something a bit more personal. This truly is the best hotel and most interesting hotel I have stayed at in many years. Service was outstanding throughout check-in, breakfast and departure. Location is a bit unusual given that it is a bit too close to the red light district in Amsterdam but there are plenty of options for good restaurants and experiences as long as you avoid the crazyness.

A very nice speakeasy hotel. Small and comfortable boutique. Staff was very friendly and took time to talk to us. As other reviews mention, the bartender checked us in and carried all of our luggage up to our room for us. The stairs are steep and small but manageable. Luckily we were on the first floor (2nd level above bar) so only had to go up one set of steps. The bar was never loud at night. We had a canal view so did hear cars & people off and on all night, but didn’t bother us. Loved the room!! Gabriel was our cook each morning and the breakfast was a perfect start to the days. You feel like you are experiencing Amsterdam from city center… the way we wanted it. We would definitely stay there again!
