Great location, 5 minute walk to Edinburgh castle, 10/15 minute walk to city centre. No need to buy a tram travelcard for your stay as everything is walkable distance.

Good hotel
Nice room although separate toilet was a little dark. There was drilling going on in the morning somewhere in the hotel. Breakfast was good although coffee was a bit weak, even espresso.

Not staying at Novotel again
Cheap, sinking, unsupportive mattress and too thick pillows made for a dreadful nights sleep and a very stiff neck. Loud music in reception made it impossible to communicate, especially for someone with a hearing impairment. Good pool, good food in restaurant, but got noisy in there on Sat night when live music playing in bar, so not very relaxing after 7pm.

4/10 Fair

Not for Families
In terms of hotel itself, I would say it is more like a 3* rather than a 4* hotel. Cons 1. The hotel is not for families. We had a toddler that needs warm milk before bed but there were no kitchen facilities available to provide milk. 2. The room we were offered was tiny with absolutely no free space to walk. With the sofa bed and the double bed, there was no space and the photos were very different to what we had booked. 3. The receptionists were not professional. One checking in did not mention the lifts need a key card to use. One receptionist (blonde young lady without a name card) was chatting up one of the clients for 15 mins even though she knew we were waiting. 4. The cleaners did not even change the sheet or vaccuum the carpets when we asked for the room to be cleaned. Pros 1. The hotel is conveniently located.

Weekend getaway
The hotel is in a great location, with an easy walk to Grassmarket. The room was spacious and decorated very nicely. The staff were great and the breakfast was extremely good! The only downside was that the room was very hot, and the thermostat was difficult to use. It wouldn’t stop me from staying here again though!

Hotel was lovely, car park on-site was handy, reception staff appeared poorly trained or just not upto the job on checkin. Night reception staff were great

Lovely stay and really good location. Staff were all really helpful. Only downside was the temperature in the room - really hot even with the fan to be able to sleep

6/10 Good

Room was mostly nice and clean, but some staining on the carpets. Staff were really friendly and attentive. We booked a castle view room, which was way more expensive than other rooms, and barely had a view of the castle. We could mostly see the building across the road. Really not worth the extra money and a big disappointment given such a difference in price. I’d stay here again but wouldn’t spend the extra for this type of room again.
