We pulled into Galle station after a beautiful coastal train ride from Colombo, and quickly found a Tuk Tuk driver who drove us into the Galle Fort area and down the narrow streets to Small House.
Our host greeted us with a warm smile and took us up the stairs in the quaint colonial house to our room. It was spacious and clean, with big shuttered windows to let in light from the courtyard area. The host was happy to give us tips on what to do in the city, suggesting we start by exploring the fort and rampart, which did not disappoint. Just a one minute walk from our room and we were stood on the edge of the Dutch fortress' rampart looking out over the sea. We strolled around the perimeter taking in the sights such as the lighthouse, mosque, clock tower and cathedral, finally watching the sun set, before heading to the Dutch Hospital later that evening for food.
On our first morning we woke to a pleasant but basic breakfast of eggs, toast, fruit and coffee, before going to Unawatuna beach for the day, something I would highly recommend doing.
The bed was comfortable and our room was very clean and well air conditioned. In terms of location you are right where you need to be. Overall it proved reasonable value and I would certainly suggest staying here to my friends.
