I used Chuzenji Kanaya hotel as a hikers stop. The walk up from the town was pretty and the hotel was very smart, clean and friendly.
The WiFi was poor but the full sized bath, comfortable bed and room facilities were all super.

Stay here for a wonderful experience in every way
This historic hotel, founded it in 1870, is beautifully located and provides an exceptional experience in every way. The staff got a backpack left on the bus back to us within an hour. The onsen is a dream. I would love to be able to return someday.

A great place to stay in. It is not the type of modern hotel that we usually stayed in. But the feel is different. There’s warmth and a lot of history in the hotel. The staff are also really helpful. The onsen is also a really good experience for us first-timers. The location is also good as its in between the heritage sites and ski resort. I highly recommend this place.

ご飯はとてもおいしかったです。部屋も古い建物を綺麗に管理して頂いていると思うのですが、大浴場の扉の暗証番号が個人的には開けづらくて苦労しました。大浴場はサウナを設置頂いておりますが、出来れば水風呂と休養スペースを設けて頂ければもっと良かったです。
後は大きめの荷物は部屋まで持ち運びいただければ有りがかったかもしれません。
最後に外の街灯なのですが、時間に合わせて点灯していると思うのですが、訪問した時は街灯がついてない時間で既に暗く、入口の看板が見えなかったので、出来れば日の入り時間に合わせて調整いただけたら嬉しいです。

朝食は、コーヒーなどのお代わりなどを聞いて頂けないのが残念でした。ラウンジに行っても閉まっていたので。
朝の温泉の給湯器の不具合のため、水が一切出ず、熱湯しか出なくて本当にビックリしました。皆さん、困っていらっしゃって、フロントに電話して復旧をお願いした方がおられました。

どのスタッフも丁寧で、常に目を配り対応をしており、とても素晴らしかったです。老舗のホテルのためホテルの内装は、とても落ち着いた温かみのある感じでした。夕食/朝食共にとても美味しく、レストランも落ち着いた雰囲気でとても良かったです。一つ気になった点は、壁の薄さ。部屋にいると隣の部屋のTVや話し声、廊下を歩いてくる方の話し声が聞こえてしまう点でしょう。
全体的には、とても満足しています。
また訪れたいなと思えるホテルでした。

居心地の良いお部屋やロビー。何よりもフランス料理がとても美味しく、大満足です。
朝食もゆっくり美味しくいただきました。
こんなにリーズナブルでこの料理の質に驚きです。
今後も家族でリピートします。猿が結構いて温泉に入る時が怖かった。自然なので仕方ないのかな。
