Nice Place To Stay
Very quaint, clean and comfortable place to stay. I particularly liked the lobby area. It had a warm, friendly feel to it due to it's rustic decor and the seats/couches were quite comfortable. Highly recommend this motel.

Mediocre in Gardnerville
We went for 2 days for a wedding in small town Gardnerville. Where to start, the door to our room had to be assaulted to get it to open/close. The floors were filty, the bathroom door had foot prints all over it, and the microwave had 2 thawed hot pockets left in it. The ice machine doesnt work either. Everything about the hotel was basic at best.

I was a little bit disappointed while checking in that the desk clerk took a call and made a reservation with the caller and me wait while I was checking in even though I was there first, had already waited behind a previous customer and had a prepaid booked room. All else was great.

Stay away!!!!
I don’t even know where to begin. First thing walking in the room it smelled very musty. The water in the sink didn’t drain, I could only get one channel on the TV and when I asked the lady at the front she said, push the input button, like I hadn’t already tried that. She did not offer to get up and help, the pillowcases are brown, but the sheets were white and it made me wonder what was the brown pillowcase covering up. Pretty gross. My front door was really hard to open and I was worried a couple times. I was gonna get stuck in inside. Not worth the money I paid at all. Do not stay here.

2/10 Poor

We have stayed at Historian Inn for many years in row since my in-laws are in Gardnerville. The property has always been good, though there has always been “something” that wasn’t quite right. A good example is the ice machine has been broken for over 2.5 years. Annoying but not a deal breaker. When I asked the former property manager about it, I was told they tried to fix it but couldn’t. A new one was too expensive. This year was too much though. Upon check in, we discovered the toilet wouldn’t flush. Turns out the chain was broken and not connected to the flush lever. I was told there was no maintenance on duty at the time (5:30pm on a Thursday). I asked for a room switch and was told nothing was available that would match our stay length. I was asked to “make it work” until morning. My wife, who is a wizard at quick fixes, used a bread tie to reconnect the chain. The very next thing we noticed was that the toilet seat was for a round toilet but the toilet itself was an oval bowl. That means several inches of the bowl extended out past the lid. When you sit down, you’re almost certainly touching porcelain with your legs. When I mentioned this to the staff I was told, “It’s been that way for awhile. We are new management and haven’t gotten to it yet.” This was enough for me to look for other hotels near by, price be damned, but nothing that was acceptable was available. This is the last time we will stay at Historian Inn.

2/10 Poor

This property was unsafe and very disgustingly dirty. A huge crack in the ceiling above the bed, uncovered electrical outlets, dirty linen, toilet was not secured. The establishment management was not willing to give us another room or refund our stay.

No ice machine/no ice bucket in rm. Toilet flush stopper needed adjustment. Sink drain plug was disconnected from the lever to raise and lower it. Table in rm. had not been cleaned after previous occupant ... sticky. Lights above sink flickered. AC unit did not respond reliably to settings designated by rm. occupant. Temp dial rolled a full 360 degrees which affected temp. No housekeeping over a two night stay. Request for 30 additional minutes beyond 11am check because of a morning commitment was denied. Pleasant personnel but Historian did not seem guest-focused. Would think twice before re-booking. Carson Valley Inn was a better experience just up the road, but I needed non-smoking accommodations and in this regard Historian was a real plus.
