Booked this hotel in April for a stay in July and ensured we had chosen a newly renovated room which was more expensive than the older looking rooms.
A few days before checking in, we looked back on Expedia to see if the hotel had a laundry service and noticed all the names of the rooms and photos had changed. We emailed the hotel to verify that the room we would be staying in was a renovated one. We got a reply saying that the room we had booked was not a renovated one and that the hotel was now booked out. Our new room was small and the bathroom dated and cramped.
We went to speak to one of the owners Michael about the mix up with the rooms. He was very rude, accepted no responsibility and seemed to be more interested in what was happening outside than talking to us. We received no apology, and when we said that he had falsely advertised the room he put all the blame on expedia for not putting the right photos up, and on us by saying that we should have known we would not have had a nicer room for the price we paid.
At the beginning and throughout our stay, they kept saying they'll give us a refund so we could stay elsewhere, however as you can imagine it would be impossible to find another hotel last minute, in the middle of Chania and at a reasonable price.
One positive was that one of the owners sat down with us and recommended lot's of bars, restaurants and beaches to visit.
After reading such good reviews about the hotel, we were disappointed by the way were treated.
