I worst experience ever. I was there mid march 2020, while I was in Uruguay, I find out that within 24 hrs USA was closing the boarders and all flights were cancel due to COVID 19. I was very lucky that America Airlines refunded my ticket and I was able to come back to USA in 24 hrs using COPA Air last flight. The hotel refused to refund 6 night that I didn't use, contacting a mger to explain the situation was impossible, also Expedia contacted them numerous times about the refund with no reply. This was an involuntary situation, that they didn't care to help !

Location was perfect. Right on a major city artery, with numerous points of interest in an easy walking periphery. Staff were fun in accommodating my practice of español, and the breakfast buffet was great. My expectations were met.

Looks nice, horrible front desk staff towards fore
Couldn't even stay here. Front desk was incredible how they were treating the dozen or so people trying to get a room when check-in started. They had some computer issue, or too many down rooms, so they said all our reservations were invalid. I peeked at this screen system, it seemed they had at least three "better" rooms available, but said they were not or they could not allow. We have video of this one guy finally exploding after the staff tried to ignore everyone until they just left. People prepaid for these rooms and some came from different countries. This place as a dozen country flags outfront yet was the most unfriendly place we have encountered in all sorry Americas how they treat Spanish speaking and non Spanish speaking foreigners. They insisted we did not prepay, even after showing credit card statement. We were forced to leave and stay with local couch surfer. We contacted Hotels.com and still no action or refund. We never stayed, we never signed or filled legal foreign guest documents, we are not in their security footage. Disgraceful

Cheap for a Reason
This was the mustiest place I’ve ever stayed. The hallways smelled like a high school locker room and the room smelled of mildew and had visible black mold. The bedding was stained and the air conditioner blew nothing but hot air. Spend a little more and stay at a nicer place.

Worst-run hotel ever
There are so many problems with this place I almost don't know where to begin. But at the outset I want to say that the location is great, and that the hotel has potential even though it's not being maintained well. If you don't care about service or security, it's a comfortable enough place at a cheap price. But the staff is terribly incompetent and no one takes responsibility for the many errors committed daily. My stay was for 17 days, and on at least 5 of them they didn't bother to clean my room. Innumerable requests went completely unheeded, and there is no real security in the rooms because there is no chain on the doors, nor any other way to keep staff from entering. The worst offense came after 10:00 one night, as I was lying in bed: a couple came into my room because the "system" somehow listed my room as unoccupied, and the staff had given them the same room. Perhaps not surprisingly, there were multiple occasions when guests would be found screaming at the front desk staff at the top of their voices; they, too, were having problems of one kind or another, and no one was responding. There were also lots of little things. For example, my key wouldn't work, and I'd have to make trip after trip to the front desk to have it remade. The breakfast room opened late almost every day, and one day there was no milk. To make matters worse, the staff rarely apologized, and things never got any better. I'll be back in Montevideo next year, but I won't stay at the Balmoral again.

This property has been built in the 1960s probably and never renovated. The rooms are dark and damp, the breakfast not fresh at all. Staff don’t seem to care. The only positive about this place is the location which is close to everything in Montevideo

Location is excellent. The staff is generally friendly. They misrepresent the fact that they offer a parking garage. It is some available spaces, very few and not comfortable to use. I ended paying in a closed by parking to leave my rental safe.

I was there for near a month. Were many days that they DID NOT clean the room . During my staying,4 or 5 times they cleaned the room around 2 pm,and that is acceptable. The rest of the time they came to do the room very late in the evening, around 7 PM or when I was resting around 4 or 5 pm.I asked to speak to the manager and it was no way to do it.Two of the receptionists,Carlos and Federico were very rude to me. The other receptionists, like the cleaning and breakfast personnel were very kind.

Great location on main street in heart of shopping district in old part of city. Views across the city from our balcony on 7th floor hard to beat. However this hotel is well past its best, with a poor breakfast, poor housekeeping, and poor front desk staff. A not so pleasant situation arose when the front desk staff allocated keys to our room to another guest!! Not sure that we were lucky or unlucky to be taking a nap when they tried to enter the room. I opened the door to see what was happening with our door lock to be met with an embarrassed group of people who had been given keys to our room. Whilst an apology was offered by the front desk staff, the explanation of it was a mistake, seemed less than satisfactory. One of their party was in a wheel chair, so I doubt the king size bed in our room for their party of 3 adults would be satisfactory at all. The scattered broken glass on the balcony was only noticed in daylight, luckily the night before there were no issues when we walked bare foot onto the balcony to admire the view. House keeping did promptly clean it when asked. The only selection of hot food for breakfast was scrambled eggs. No toaster in sight to make some toast as an option. Recommend look elsewhere
