Underwhelming I’m sorry to say
After years of using the pub was so excited to be staying here for 2nights, afraid to say we left underwhelmed with the apartment looking very tired, the window latch broken meaning the window kept blowing open and the food service at the pub very poor, staffed by young part timers who didn’t seem to care nor have any communication skills and took offence at any q’s or requests e.g can I have some cutlery pls… could we have some ketchup pls?… basic stuff - really not a cheap weekend at 390 euros for 2 nights without breakfast - sorry to say it was very disappointing

Not a place for a quiet weekend.
First two nights of my stay were fine, the last night, Friday, was spoilt by the noise from a night club that went on until 3am. It was absolutely impossible to sleep.

Adequate
There were no curtains , only net curtains with a transparency to the outside yard. Had I been female, I would have objected even more as someone was smoking directly outside my window in the morning with an unobstructed view of my room! The entrance to the hotel is around the corner in an adjacent street to which I was given inadequate directions as there is a club next door to the entrance of the hotel which caused confusion and irritation.. My only compliment is that it was clean and had a comfortable bed.

Almost perfect but for noise issue
In the main we were very happy. We were upgraded from a double room to an apartment. Staff are very friendly, it was very clean and comfortable. The food is excellent. There were a few things that made it impossible to give it a 5 stars, mainly noise related. The apartment was next to the rail line and another pub across the road. Triple glazing may help to resolve the issue. Also, and this was noted in other reviews so I came prepared, we stayed on a Friday night and there was a loud continous beat from the club up to 3am which my husband slept through but really disturbed me. I had brought headphones so I coped but won't stay on a Friday or Saturday in the future . The bed while comfy was actually too big for the room it was in! A super kingsize meant that at one side of the room there was very little room to get in and out of bed. However we will stay here again, but on a Sunday to Thursday!

There's no elevator and no parking. We arrived on a weekend and is very popular for locals and had to park blocks away. The room is small but modern and had some issues with no telephone service and air conditioning was needing repairs. It was difficult with carrying luggage and items to the 2nd floor which is the lowest floor for rooms while the other rooms were on the third floor. If younger, this is the place for you but if older and unless you're in great shape and don't mind being without parking or an elevator this is not the place. The woman at the front desk helped us with our luggage but I felt that it was somewhat overwhelming for me. The shower and bed were adequate but the lack of parking with the threat of a major parking fine in the morning and lack of elevator made it unpleasant. We stayed in the hotel but there are apartments behind the hotel that do offer an elevator. The location is near the water and probably fun for people who have no physical limitations. It was stressful for me because it was difficult to double park in front of the hotel unload the luggage while my friend found a place to park a few blocks away. The staff and manager were responsive, it was clean and reasonably priced but would never put myself in that situation again. I am usually very careful when reserving hotel rooms but somehow missed the lack of an elevator. It does advertise parking but its on the street if you can find a space.

Nice hotel, gets quite loud until about 3am since they regularly have live music in the bar. Good place to stay off you plan on attending pub life, but for a good night sleep, I'd pick another hotel.

GOOD: Bray is lovely! The Martello is a good quality hotel. NOT SO GOOD: If you enjoy the hotel's night life or you are a light sleeper ask for a room away from the DART line at the back. The hotel does need a secure area for leaving bags as I was told room check in was not until 4pm! I would also recommend that some of the staff don't talk about being hungover to each other, where guests can hear their conversation.
