2/10 Poor

We have stayed in the Carlton before & it was OK, this time it was terrible. Checked in on a Friday for a 7 night stay, Saturday morning mid shower there was no warm water. Went for breakfast, the young lad who was serving on seemed to have no interest in what he was doing, the urn had not been switched on so no hot water for coffee/tea, there was no bread for toast, no fruit. We had to complete a pre order for breakfast so they knew what we wanted so there is no excuse for items to be missing (Black pudding Sat & Sun, mushrooms Tues & Wed) Also the only butter available was a tub of utterly butterly that had the previous users toast crumbs in it.On Sunday he turned the urn on but there was no water in it. From Monday onwards the service was a lot better apart from the missing mushrooms, hot water, bread fruit & individual butters. Our room was not serviced properly I had to ask for it to be done on the Sunday so we got clean towels & replacement coffee & milk, toilet rolls - we resorted to buying our own just in case we were not given any & we were right to do so. The room was only vaccumed once in the whole week & after Sunday I had to ask for it to be serviced on a further 2 occasions, one time we had to leave our key because they had lost the master keys. There was never anyone there to complain to all dealings went through the bar staff or the waiting staff. There was hardly any storage in the room, definitely not enough for 2 people who were staying for a week.

Really great staff and comfortable stay. There are stairs and no lift so it’s not suitable for people with physical disability. It takes time to get the water running hot but the place was quite nice and much better than I expected from the ratings. Breakfast was not that great but the complementary drinks and coffee machine in the room was a nice bonus.

2/10 Poor

poor brealfast service
Lady received us was wonderful but breakfast team was terrible. Almost everything was finished, the boy was topping up but he was not available easily. it took 1 and almost half hour to finish the breakfast. I wouldn't recommend this place.

2/10 Poor

Dont stay here - the reviews are beyond inaccurate. I never write reviews, but when I saw the dreadful state of the place and clientele, I politely said I wouldn't be staying and could I have a refund. They declined - which is in keeping with the experience. A truly unpleasant place to stay - I seriously question Expedia's rating system. Dump.

Decent sleep, but skip the breakfast
The rooms are clean and comfortable, though a bit noisy late at night (but they gave earplugs…). No lift, so did have a lot of stairs to climb. The main disappointment was the breakfast. Poor quality food, overcooked, wrong items, and scarcity of food on buffet. Staff were friendly and helpful; checkout was easy.

Lovely Staff but a few niggles
The Hotel is on a street corner and parking nearby is limited we had bags and a child with us and our room was on the top floor and no lift available so 6 flights of stairs the room itself was well presented and clean but this is where the niggles came in our bed sheet had a cigarette burn hole in it and the shower which was very complicated to use the main handle was hanging off had had to be constantly pressed back on it was a windy old day and the top floor windows which where old sash cord type windows and had the wind stopping resistance of a seive however its not all bad staff are lovely breakfast was amazing not sure if we would use again but its not all bad

Great stay
The hotel/pub looks like an 'old man's pub' but the rooms are very comfortable and clean. The breakfast was very tasty and Claire was amazingly helpful and friendly by pointing out the best places to eat.

Room was cozy and clean, staff was extremely friendly and enjoyable to talk to. The bar/pub downstairs was a great chill atmosphere filled with people who clearly knew and loved each other. Plenty of options for food in the area, and the pub was priced very reasonably. Will absolutely be staying again
