The misleading Hotels.com posting gave no hint that Hacienda Santa Rosa is in the middle of nowhere, at the end of a very long drive down dirt roads.
We had booked two very expensive rooms, but were shown to one room, which smelled bad.
When we realized that, because of a bad smell, we couldn’t sleep there, and that we were not comfortable in that isolated location, we called Hotels.com to explain that we could not stay there, and were leaving.
In the event, we found a comfortable, friendly place in Merida where we happily parked ourselves for the four nights in question.
The cost of the Hacienda Santa Rosa booking was non-refundable in spite of the smell and in spite of being shown to one room and having booked two, on the ludicrous grounds that the $2,400.00 for four nights was some kind of deal.
