Use “Marco Polo” at your risk!
We reserved a room at “Marco Polo” only to find when we arrived late at night for check-in at the Le Manganao hotel reception desk (the location shown on the Hotels.com confirmation form we had received) that the hotel claimed they had nothing to do with “Marco Polo”.
"It is one of those condos next door," they said to us.
Next to the hotel, indeed, are a group of condo buildings that apparently sell their extra nights through aggregators like Hotels.com, use Le Manganao as their pictures and site descriptions, but have nothing to do with the hotel. Except that when the room you thought you booked is not available, you in desperation ask Le Manganao if they have one, which in our case they did.
Bottom line: we paid Hotels.com for a stay at “Marco Polo” which we couldn’t access, then we paid Le Manganao again for the same nights.
It was unclear to us whether Le Manganao is involved or just reaps some benefit when folks like us show up at their front desk, begging for a room at the last minute.
After a few calls Hotels.com refunded to us our original payment to “Marco Polo”.
While the 4 days at Le Manganao were pleasant enough, the whole experience didn’t pass the “Life is too short” test. We could have found the same or better rooms in Saint Francois for less money than we gave Le Manganao. Beware “Marco Polo” !!!
