We love Hilo, true Hawaiian town, beautiful views from the hotel of the ocean and Coconut Island etc. Take in the daily farmers market in town ,just awesome options and variety. So much to see, incl. waterfalls, snorkeling, Caves, Volcano, etc.

Hilo is on the rainy side of the Big Island, in a tropical rain forest, so come expecting rain at least part of the time. We were fortunate to have sun during our 2 days, with evening rains. Shops close early but good restaurant options.

Enjoyed walking around Banyan Drive and Japanese gardens. Enjoyed eating and shopping in downtown Hilo. Pineapple restaurant and a nearby Thai restaurant were both very good.

If you're looking for a beautiful place that is more like old Hawaiian style Hawaii, Hilo is the place! So many mom and pop shops and places to eat. Lots of good local places to eat and try. A little wet (rainy) and humid (because it's still sunny)!

The Banyan drive was awesome. Small convenient place to visit Volcanic National Park. Local snorkeling sites are not that great. Food options are limited. Only Volcano enthusiasts should visit Big Island, otherwise, Kauai, Maui or Oahu are better.

Not like the hustle and hustle of Hawaii's capitol (Honolulu). But that what is unique about Hawaii... choices. Very friendly place to visit and explore nearby.
