Avignon's Avignon City Centre neighborhood is known for its castle and festivals, and entices visitors with attractions including Rue de la Republique and Place de l'Horloge.
Wander cobblestone streets to the imposing Palais des Papes, once home to medieval pontiffs. Sip rosé at a café on Place de l'Horloge, watching street performers entertain beneath plane trees.
Beautiful city center! Very walkable, old streets with beautiful history and architecture. Every encounter we had (as non-French speaking) was kind and encouraging. Using pleasantries (Bonjour, S'il vous plaæt, Merci/Merci Beaucoup/ AuRevoir) helped!

Good base for seeing Provence. Good restaurants. Palais du pape was unique and its history interesting. Walking by the river in good weather was very enjoyable. Loved tasting all the local wines.

We were there during their annual arts/theater festival. Cool but it was CROWDED. Check the city's events calendar before you go, if you're sensitive to how many people you like to be around.

Avignon was truly a cultural experience. Once we learned a few of the norms, like how to negotiate the roundabouts while driving, we were fine.

The walled city was really cool! There is a three week theater festival every year that may be worth attending.

could be cleaner - too many vagrants on the streets drinking at all hours
"Wonderful location, Inside old city walls and very near Papal palace. Excellent breakfasts, nice bathroom and bedroom. We loved everything. Secured internet! Walk or taxi everywhere "
"Would definitely stay here again. Hotel is incredibly well located, recently renovated and clean. Lobby staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Would 100%stay here again."
"The bed was very comfortable, and I had a view of the inner courtyard. The lift helped with my luggage, but inside there was still some steps. The hotel doesn’t have that extremely fresh feel, but it was definitely clean and comfortable. I’d stay again. "
"Excellent location for exploring Avignon, supermarket next door for all supplies needed. Helpful reception staff. Very tight entrance to underground carpark for larger cars. "
