Sophie is a gracious host with an excellent ability to make anyone feel like you’re at you “second home” whenever you stay at Port City Guest House. Breakfast is great, enjoyed the historic house, great central location in Wilmington (so you can drive or Uber anywhere in town in a short period of time). Rates are reasonable and property offers a great alternative to the cookie cutter corporate chain hotels.

Great Stay

Hi, I just wanted to tell you about the B&B we stayed at on 7-20-18 to 7-22-18. Port City Guest House, love the name and Sophie is the owner / operator. Port City is located on Market Street, 16 blocks from the river. It’s one of those big old houses you see on Market St. We got there at 3pm and rang the back door bell and a minute later Sophie came to greet us. She showed us to our room and let us pick a bathroom for our exclusive use. I think two bedrooms had bathrooms in the hallway and the third room had an on suite. Anyway we brought our bags to the room, freshened up and then came downstairs for a snack and a glass of wine. I had a glass of champagne. We talked for about 20 -25 minutes getting to know each other. Most B&B owners like to chat a bit when you arrive. We knew that and enjoy it. We had the Oriental room. She gave us clean robes to use for our stay. The room was decent size, the queen bed was comfortable. Saturday morning she had a spread of fruits on the table along with coffee, tea water and orange juice. She made us eggs with a side of home fries and bacon. Everything was great. She kept asking if we wanted more food, but we were full. We were out all day Saturday so didn’t get to enjoy the snacks she left out for her guests. Sunday morning breakfast was just as good; although this time she offered waffles in addition to the eggs, bacon, home fries, jams and toast. Lovely B&B, beaitiful mansion in central location to downtown and easy drive to beaches and attractions. The rooms are all pleasant.The host, Sophie Johnson is fabulous! She makes everyone feel at home, provides generous servings of food both mornings and afternoons, and enjoys engaging in conversations with her guests. She is a native of the town and very knowledgeable, full of ideas of what to do and where to go. I would definitely return if I was back in Wilmington.

Sophie was nothing short of AMAZING! You could not ask for a better place to stay, or a more attentive hostess! She was absolutely incredible in every way! The room, the history, the decor, the breakfast - every bit of if was PERFECT!
