This hotel was amazing, but my booking experience through Hotels.com was terrible. I booked this hotel because we were planning to go to Edo Wonderland (kind of like a Renaissance Fair for Japan, you can dress up and interact with other characters, LARPing). I felt an onsen hotel would be great for relaxing after. I thoroughly read all the information available on Hotels.com prior to booking. After booking, in my confirmation email, it said we MUST check in between 3-7 pm. This information was not provided prior to my non refundable prepaid booking Arriving before 7 was Not possible as we were driving from Toyama. Phone call to hotel was unanswered. Contacted Hotel.com and went through three live chat agents who did not help. I had prepaid and one agent said he would mark me as a no show and not refund the money if I was not there by 7. Finally decided to just go and see if we could check in later. With rain and mountain roads we got there at 9:45 pm. The hotel staff was wonderful, gracious, welcoming, and even helped my sons write tanabata wishes for a decoration in the lobby. Onsen were spectacular. They switch the men’s and women’s sides every day so if you go in the evening and in the morning you get to see both. Outdoor onsen pool was my favorite experience in Japan so far. Breakfast buffet was delicious, unusual, and varied. Hotel room was amazing. We had both Western beds and futons, which the adults (beds) and boys (futons) loved. And you don’t need to check in by 7.
