Check in was a stressful and personal information comprising process. It was a last minute booking (day before) and needed a late check in. Asked for the procedure to be sent, which they didn't do. Eventually followed up (a busy work day) and was told that unless I sent them an email with my credit card details and a pic of my driver's licence they would not be providing the late check in details (and I would be sleeping in the street). I wouldn't do this and have never had to do so with the many other late check-ins I have to do when traveling on business. With flight delays, taxi delays I just made it before the 9.30pm reception close. However, incredibly, they then took my CC and drivers licence and photocopied (back and front), in another room but I could see this and then just left on the copier. I queried this but it wasn't going to be any other way and it was late and I was tired. They said they would shed it the next day but.... And the reception wasnt open when I left at 7.30am. For a reason they could not explain, it was their policy and were unable to swipe the card at check in (like every other hotel of all different star ratings over many years do). Completely compromised personnel security and CC and against everything we are taught how to protect ourselves. Hotels.com should be able to protect us against this. If I had the option to walk out (with my info with me) I would have but not the case at 10pm and nowhere else open.
