Being completely aware that this was a roadside motel, was not expecting the Ritz, but this was appalling! First of all, the ENTIRE place smelled of stale cigarette smoke. And then, there was absolutely NO WAY that our room was a non-smoking room. It stank as did ANYTHING we had brought in - AND WE WERE ONLY THERE FOR 10 HOURS. Even worse, the door from the street to upstairs had the lock/door jamb taped with painter's tape. And if you did not pull the bar to you to make it close tight, there was no safety from the street. Why bother with a key entry there when it was ALWAYS open??? That would not have been so bad, but the deadbolt on our room door DID NOT WORK EITHER!!! The hole for the bolt in the metal door frame had been HAND SAWED and the bolt DID NOT FIT IN! I was there with my teen-aged daughter, and she DID NOT feel safe. The hair dryer also did not work. Finally, there was NO indication on line that there would be no breakfast, however meager, and feel the price should have reflected that lack. Covid is lessening a bit (her excuse) and they could have had some fruit or packaged danish. We had driven for hours, it was 9pm, and we needed to be up early. At checkout we were told if we had complained within an hour, they would have switched rooms - THAT WOULD NOT have solved the pervasive stink which was most nauseating. Sorry we were exhausted and tried to crash. We showered in the morning and ran out so we did not smell for the day. Obviously NOT SATISFIED!
