The hotel is good undergoing a massive renovation. In fact, as of this review (3/2023), the J Corporation (or whatever their official name is), is undertaking a massive 4th Street improvement project that promises to be pretty incredible if they follow through and get the staff on board.
We usually stay at GSR or Silver Legacy but wanted to give J Resort a chance. They purchased the old Sands Regency and started their ambitious makeover. The construction and detours were not an issue during our 3-day stay. They did a good job of making that portion as unobtrusive as possible. Plus the whole project seems very impressive, especially the small physical improvements already made to rooms and hotel decor.
The staff is an issue however. While there were some very nice people working there, such as the wonderful and super pleasant people working the cage and the bartenders, the rest of our interactions were more memorable for the unpleasant or unhelpful experience.
1. The Coffee Shop - none of the employees were helpful. They may hate their jobs. One filled my coffee cup with half hot water because they were low on regular coffee, I refused. Another employee, a young lady, was bantering loudly with a girlfriend of hers, full of inappropriate work time foul language, ignoring customers as if they were a bother.
The Cafe - I asked the waitress about the jam they served, her reply was, “I don’t know, it’s whatever they bought for the place.”
Oh well.
