Construction in front of hotel. Streets blocked off. Difficult to get to site. What a mess.

In the morning prior to a video conference call that I needed to lead, I tried to log into the Internet. It took me several minutes to figure out that I wasn’t able to connect and that it likely was not some thing on my computer but rather the WiFi system. I called the front desk and a young woman by the name of Brie answered and was very polite. She apologized for my trouble and asked if she could transfer me to the Internet support team. I had trouble connecting with them. I called her back with 12 minutes before my conference call was to begin. She quickly arranged for me to get access to another guest room, just down the hall. Her hopes were that this would solve my problem. It did not. I called her from the new room at which point she said she would transfer me to Internet support, once again, and stay on the line until my problem was completely solved. She did so. My concern about being late for my meeting, was mitigated by her creativity in supporting me as well as her commitment to stay by my side until my issue was completely resolved. She really, really impressed me.

It would have been nice to have been made aware ahead of the trip that the entire hotel was going to be filled with relocated people affected by the hurricane. Traveling with my family my children were subject to many things I shouldn’t have had to have dealt with staying there. Weed, loud explicit music, crowds at every door, panhandlers, etc.

I know that the property is housing hurricane evacuees but there was people hanging outside the Marriott all hours of the day and night, drinking, smoking. It was not a good look for the Marriott.

Clean place close to French Quarter. They were helping hurricane victims so lots of RIF RAFF outside the building which made it feel unsafe. My girls were looking forward to swimming during Fall Break but pool was drained. Not sure if COVID related or not. Decent place and close to everything.

I spoke to manager and they were nice and said they would be looking into the issues we had. I probably wouldn’t recommend staying here except it’s in a great location.

Listed free parking in Expedia website under search than charged steep rate. Very sketchy around lobby even by New Orleans standards. Tons of law enforcement there and for a reason.

Room was very nice but Mariott would not use my saved credit card. Had to swipe another one at check in. They also tack on a $55.00 "incidentals" charge at check in which is supposed to be credited back. Wifi is not free. All these are "standard practices" in the industry, but still annoying at a time when hotels should be encouraging travelers and incentivizing their stays.

We were told that our reserved room was not available. There were 40-50 people loitering in the lobby at all times.
