Loved the deco, loved the roof pool, loved everything about it and could easily move in straight away! Only pitfall (if I have to be extremely picky): there is no airport shuttle service (even though bus 150 leaves you right in front in the hotel's door for $2 each way...), and because it's not a "conventional" hotel (more a high-end condo type of things) […] in order to get breakfast you have to go to a (very nice) restaurant which is situated round the corner of the street, but in the same building. Breakfast is included in the price of the room (sorry, of the apartment), but is limited to either scrambled-eggs and toast or pancakes, and comes with black coffee or orange juice. Anything else is charged extra (literally anything, so for a latte, just go with black coffee and the free milk they will provide). Additional cost for internet was a bit mean, but it tends to be the norm there, even though you might be able to get free WIFI signal from surrounding hotels. While the hotel was in a great location and the rooms/suites were well maintained and comfortable, the service was mostly disappointing and unyielding. They nickle and dimed everything. Our check it was scheduled for 3:00 pm. We arrived early (at 1) and was told our room was almost ready. It was not ready until 5:30 pm. nothing more than an apology […] ensued. We booked 2 suites for 3 nights for 8 people yet they could only give us a pass for 2 beach chairs and 2 umbrellas ($10 cost). We find at the beach that these passes were improper and the umbrella is not included. We were told the rollaway bed was $50 for our stay but I get home to find $150 charged. The hotel told us after the fact that is is $50 per night. NOT TRUE. The managers are unyielding in their service and while Jessica at the front desk was very nice, she was powerless to help. The decor at the Boulan is truly ridiculous. I have no idea to whom they are trying to cater with tasteless silver sofas, gaudy mirrors, and silly accoutrements. On the coffee table there were silver chess set pieces standing about 2 feet tall. It was a suite of rooms full of visual pollution.

We had a great extended weekend at Boulan. This is not an ordinary hotel, and I think most of the negative reviews are due to wrong expectations rather than the quality of the service provided. Boulan is great if you: -Want to cook and do your own laundry -Do not need or expect full service provided at a regular 4.5 star hotel -Happy with coffee/tea, […] OJ, yoghurt, and a bagel for breakfast -Want to be close to but not right on the beach or among the nightclubs and bars Boulan is not the best choice if you: -Need full room service -Want a full American breakfast -Are looking to party with other guests -Want to be on the beach or right among the nightclubs/bars Our room was considerably bigger than an ordinary hotel room, with a full kitchen and washing machine and dryer. Utensils were largely lacking (there were glasses, plates, and two pots, that's it). There is a nice roof top pool with a hot tub (was not hot last day), a courtyard were you can enjoy the complimentary (rather basic) continental breakfast between 8 and 10 am. There is no bar or restaurant on site today, but there are plans to add this in the future. Boulan have designated beach chairs and umbrellas on the beach. We did not experience the problems mentioned in other reviews regarding fresh towels etc. Fresh towels (both for beach and for the room) were delivered daily, bed was made daily, etc. Wifi OK. I wanted to steal all the furnishings to take home! Desk, huge walkin closets, huge bathroom w soaking tub &walking shower. Toilet in separate room. Layout a little odd in bathroom &some signs of disrepair but didnt bother me. terrace left something to be desired bc no view, side wall blocked out any view of busy Collins ave, but I wouldve liked to see. solo, I felt I couldn't use all the amenities offered, but for couple wanting to entertain &be near the hottest clubs, great! I booked this place out of desperation for a business trip when the entire island seemed to be booked - literally, I didn't even check out the Boulan website beforehand, because my only other options were of the 2 star variety. This ended up being an incredibly pleasant surprise, as my room was a full-on apartment-style suite, brand-new construction, […] with condo finishes and a wraparound balcony with a decent view of the ocean. I didn't have time to spend at the rooftop pool, but next time I'll build that into my plans. My main critique would be that this is still set up a bit more like a condo than a hotel - it would have been nice to have the complete appointments one has come to expect, for example a blow dryer or cotton swabs in the bathroom. And despite my room having its own individual wireless router, it didn't seem to get reception in all parts of the apartment. Also there was a hair on one of the pillows (thankfully there were five or six of them), which really grossed me out. I was woken up by Jack Hammers busting concrete at the lobby of the hotel, went to Manager and asked what's happening and said that they were remodeling the restaurant and that the noise will continue for at least 4 to 5 days. I had to check out and move accross the street with my 3 children and luggage.
