I reserved for 2 adults, but brought my teenage children with me last minute so I had to pay $90 extra per child, per night - I expected to pay some additional monies, but it was $180 extra on top of the prepaid amount agreed upon originally. The kids are 13 and 15 years old, but were told somewhere else if they crossed "the line" (invisible) and by mistake sat on the "adults only" side in an open restaurant... not very clearly marked where you have crossed "the invisible line".... I got off the jet skis and fell on a sharp rock that hit the arch of my foot, so I couldn't walk for the rest of the day. Go easy when you go into the water because there are a lot of rocks that are not quickly seen through the water. They volunteered a wheel chair, but we had to keep returning it and calling for it everytime we needed it again. However, the staff is very sweet and try to be helpful every which way. We were very happy with the hotel! It is only 1 year old so everything is new, clean and cool looking. the decor is fantastic, on the website I thought it was computer generated images, but it does, in fact, look exactly like that. The food and hotel were awesome. Nightly shows that were very good and interesting for all ages-lots of dance. The staff was great. We have multiple food allergies including gluten. The hotel amenities were great. The master suite was very comfortable and modern, very clean. The only thing I didnt like is that the kids club was closed from 5-8pm due to low season, and it was a great time for the kids to spend there as we had already gone to the beach and pool.

Its quite new so it looks very clean, loved the room with entrance to the pool. Food is good as well as good quality drinks. Sometimes I felt the hotel was too big so you hace to walk a lot to get anywhere. Our family just came back from Paradisus La Esmeralda. Everything was above our expectations. Service, food, rooms and kids club were excellent. one bad experience after another and the staff was the worst. I have stayed at many AI hotels and this is a wolf in sheeps clothing....looks beautifull but EVERYTHING goes wrong and they dont care. Not enough lounge chairs in the main area but plenty in the family conceierge area that go unused. many rooms overlook a dirt area, lights did not work, […] changed room and showere was clogged...took three hours and four visits to fix so we missed dinner and the show. everyone was given the wrong activities schedule and therefore kept showing up for things that were not there, managment NEVER corrected this and let a theatre full of people wait for a show that was not happening for 1/2 hour. TV guide lists channels and languages wrong, message light on phone would never go out dispite 6 calls to operator, NO security at night therefore guests were moving other guests belongings from palapas. I have never heard so many people complaining to managment and they were all met with blank stares and "it was a mistake" that is all they ever said to everyone and acted like it was the first time they were hearing it. Spa advertised over 12 but wouldnt let my child get a service, same with the yoga class. This is no way a 5 star unless you have paid extra for the family concierge and then maybe a 4. For what the hotel charges, was it worth it? Definitely not. Maybe half of what we paid. We stayed at the La Perla which is adult only - how would one know that adult only - to the resort means 20-34 years old with the desire to party your face off. I think the resort lost view of who they were marketing to when they decided to open the doors to everyone […] and their dog, just to put heads in beds. Nothing like watching a bunch of young adults at the swim-up bar pee in the pool (hello, there is a "very clean" bathroom right behind the swim-up bar!), and party their faces off until they’re falling down drunk and puking in the flower beds. When I book an all inclusive resort I look for the "relaxing" factor and this was what I was told we would get from La Perla. For the first three days, the resort was nice and quiet and enjoyable, regardless that we had to ask the front desk to restock the bar fridge "every day", remind the cleaners to clean our room everyday - although they only ever did it during siesta time. Day four hit and wow the resort changed. Ask me if I'll go back? Never. By the way, watch your iPads and your wallets. The servers at the dinner restaurants like to acquire your items when you turn away during a conversation. Talk about sneaky. However, is the resort itself beautiful? Yes. Are there any activities?
