The Rio Grande and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains shape Taos’ rugged environment. Both geographic features are main tourist attractions. In the summer, rafters take to the river; in the winter, skiers flock to nearby ski resorts. North of town, the Taos Pueblo is a National Historic Landmark and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most of its adobe structures were built between 1000 and 1450.

Due to work I was forced to make reservations for three nights in Taos the night before I flew there from Pennsylvania. Needless to say, I was not particularly expecting much from last minute reservations, but I was quite pleased with La Posada. While it is practically in the middle of town, it feels quite secluded and is remarkably peaceful. Due to […] work, I was unable to sample breakfast and really did not interact with any of the staff, except for the owner. My rooms were clean. Additionally, I found the owner to be very friendly and helpful.... particularly when I discovered after returning from field work to find that I had only made two nights and not three nights of reservation.
