My girlfriend and I stayed at the Illusion for 3 nights. The staff was very friendly and offered great advise on what do to around the area for fun and unlike resort hotels that try to make a commission on everything they sell you, the staff here give you advise on how to save money and the best ways to get around. It is very close to the bus station […] that can get you to Cancun or other destinations for a lot less compared to caravans or taxis. There are several really cool taco stands and small restaurants where the local people from the area eat at...and they are absolutely delicious if you like Mexican food. Its a min walk away from the beach and a 5 minute walk to Coco Bongo night club. The other guests staying in the hotel were also really cool and friendly and on the same vibe as us, ready to hang out and have fun and get to know each other. It can get a little noisey at times at night, but what else would you expect if you were staying in the heart of the action and 5 minutes away from all the night clubs. The hotel itself is an upscale boutique hotel and for the price in the area it cant be beaten. It is steps away from the beach. The decor is gorgeous, the breakfast (continental) is very fresh and tasty. We had a small problem with our toilet upon checkin and the maintenance staff worked on it and the next day (while we were gone) began with a full […] on repair and it worked flawlessly from then on. The computer in the reception area is available to all guests for free and was very useful for checking our itinerary and finding recommendations for restaurants (although the front desk could do this too). Every front desk person we encountered was great from Cassandra, Cynthia, to Jorge and many others I cant remember (they all work between the different Xperience hotels I believe). They helped me get the shuttle to the bus station from the ADO bus station and provided restaurant recommendations, directed me to walmart to unload my camera photos. This hotel is in the middle of everything steps away from 5th avenue for all the shopping. The hotel itself has 5floors I believe. Each floor has seating and a water tank to get water any hour of the day. The top floor has a pool and a bar open some hours throughout the day. The view is very nice and it is very relaxing to hang out there. The rooms were well appointed, nice bathroom shower, spacious room, nice lighting, although I wished they had a little more drawer space we were able to make due. Oh and the safe worked much better and easier than some places I've been. Overall a great hotel with one of the best bang for your buck in the area. Very very nice personal service all employers friendly and service minded. Thank You !! It is not an adult hotel there are children...but we had no problem with that. Though the beds where like a marble floor.... If you like to be in the middle of everything it is great ,close to the beach, restaurants and shops

The hotel was taken over by Experience Hotels last year so the name is a bit confusing. The sign over the door says Experience in big letters with Illusion Hotel on a very small sign on the side of the door. The hotel is very well run and the staff could not be more accommodating. the hotel is less than 1 block from Mosquito Beach in Playa del Carmen, wonderful looking place with a nice rooftop pool. Nice touch is the eco friendlyness of the hotel and bottled water dispensers on every floor. Comfy bed and quiet air conditioning. Only wish I stayed longer to take advantage of the pool.

Our experience was quite bad. We could hear all noises from room next door, because between rooms there was a door, which was closed. Neighbors TV was on till 2 am, after that we could go to sleep. We booked this hotel 5 minutes after searching online and it turned out to be best decision. Service was excellent in every aspect. The hotel also provides super comfy couches/beds right on the beach. FREE!!! Limited availability though. Would definitely go back just for those beds...

Its not a four (as its written on hotel's web-site) star, its a guest house. We stayed there 5 nights. First of all the only persons in the hotel who speak English are receptionist and concierge. On check-in the receptionist said that we have a nice room with beautiful view... the view was on the next building wall. As the wall was 2-3 m from our window […] and to make the view "nicer" they painted beach and sea on it... The door to the room was from glass, covered with a piece of material. Actually all rooms on the 4th floor have glass doors. About room cleaning. Everything was pretty good, till the time, housekeeper cleaned sink and nearby area with some black chemicals, my white cosmetical bag become black, cream boxes, everyting was in smth black. Even our toothbrashes were black, we were so scared to use them that went to buy a new ones. We didnt go to complain on the reception, as it was evidence they are not very helpful. And finally on the check-out they charged us additional $10 for service!The matter is not in $10, the matter is that their service not worth 10 USD, as there is no service!! The only plus of this hotel is its location, just between the sea and 5th Avenue. For my next trip to Playa del Carmen I would not stay at this guest house (not a hotel!!!) and woudl not reccommend it to my friends! もっと読む

perfectly located- right by the beach and the downtown activity on 5th Ave. can't beat the price either! we had a little trouble finding it though, since it doesn't say Illusion Boutique on the outside.

I had a great experience staying at this hotel.

If you are looking for value, this place is in walking distance from the ADO bus station (if you are coming from Cancun). It is also as close to the beach as you can get. Wonderful hotel staff. Fab location.

Nice, unpretentious hotel right in the middle of Playa's main drag. We had a roof top room with a nice view of the ocean and access to the pool. The rooms were clean and well appointed. The continental breakfast was a bit underwelming--just toast and juice/coffee. However, the staff was extremely nice and helpful. A tad bit pricey for the room.

What you'd expect from a mid-range Playa hotel. Had everything we needed. Clean, nice bathrooms, etc. Only complaint: we were given a large corner room (which is nice), but it was situated just above the open-air kitchen on the ground below, which led to some noise around breakfast time.

Well just hope nothing goes wrong that requires you to speak with the management (such as booming music so loud through the night until 7 am that you cannot sleep) because they will just call you a liar and say they cannot do anything to help you. Though the rooftop is pretty it is not worth staying somewhere where they do not value customer service. […] I have worked in the service industry for 10 years and know how to treat customers whereas the manager here could use a course on how to treat people. This hotel is located in the best part of Carmen, it's cute, clean and a fantastic bargain!! I would recommend it to anyone!! My only complaint is that they try to push tours on the residents a bit too much.

Nice Boutique Hotel. Staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and decor is kept up very well. Continental breakfast was sub-basic but there is no shortage of food on 5'th ave. We expected a better view of the ocean from our room but the room quality made up for this let down.

Illusion hotel was great, affordable, and in a great location. But most of all the great service provided by Violeta was the best part. I highly recommend this hotel.

I was very impressed with this hotel. It was an amazing hotel for the money. The location of this hotel was ideal. It's located 300 feet from the beach and 300 feet from 5th Ave, the main street of Playa. The front desk was very helpful. The rooms were spacious. We had a wonderful stay!

I go to Playa frequently and this was my first time to stay at this hotel. I was very pleased! So close to the beach and all of the best restaurants and bars. Next time, I want to get a room by the pool! I would definitely stay again.

O Hotel está bem localizado e muito próximo a praia. O atendimento da equipe é excelente. O que deixa a desejar são: a acústica/isolamento dos quartos que do meu ponto de vista é ruim; café da manhã muito simples; e o serviço de bar da piscina poderia ser melhor.

Hotel muito bem localizado, limpo e com um serviço excelente. Tudo que foi pedido foi atendido com eficiência e gentileza. Faria apenas uma ressalva em relação ao café da manhã, poderia ser um pouco melhor.

Super hotel. Det lå 100 meter fra stranden, det passede os fint. De har en Beach Club, hvor man kan tage ned. Morgenmaden er fin- der er yoghurt, frisk frugt, brød og diverse cornflakes- æg skal man købe ved siden af, ikke særligt dyrt. Værelserne er rigtig pæne, det virker ret nyt. God rengøring.

Ska man gnälla på något så var vattnet i takpolen på tok för kallt och den är väldigt liten. Ett mycket bra litet prisvärt centralt hotell. Läget är perfekt om man vill ha nära till både strand och PdC:s centrum med dess nöjesliv. Ingen lyx, men rent snyggt och lite ballt med halvfräcka designlösningar. Al siguiente día de hacer un pago en recepción con mi tarjeta de crédito, me hicieron 5 cargos no reconocidos de otras empresas. Para nada creo q sean responsables el hotel de este fraude, pero tal vez podrían asegurar de alguna mejor forma su terminal.

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights recently, and will greatly recommend it. The service was excellent, and every employee was so friendly. We upgraded and got a room on the 4th floor which we didnt`regret. This was on a terrace with a great view to the sea. There was also a tiny little swimming pool der. Illusion hotel (or now it is called Explorers […] hotel or somehting), is situated very central to the beach and to the shopping/restaurant street 5 Avenue. Just 300 m either way.. There is a 5 min. walk to the bus station and to the ferry to Cozumel. The beach was great, with few waves. We got towels at the reception to 3 places. We choose the closest one with comfortable sunbeds. You only had to use at least 200 pesos there (for drinks/food). There were mostly couples to see among the guests, and saw only a family with a child once. We also booked a trip to Chiczen Itza and it was a great trip. Would recommend it! The only thing is that the person whom we booked the trip from, could have told us to bring towels. We didn`t get that we were going for a one hour stop for swimming in a Cenote on the way. (Now we know what a Cenote is). The hotel wants a deposit during your stay which you will get back when checking out. It is not mentioned on the hotels home page. As far as I understand, such deposits are very normal in Mexico. They also charge 27 pesos extra each day for service and tax. We didn`t eat any breakfast there, and the breakfast room could need a little update. Also they should clean the floors in the room a little better. On our first day and a day in the midweek, it felt sandy walking in our room. But these are the only things to comment. If you are going to Mexico, we would really recommend Playa del Carmen instead of Cancun. This place is central to different attractions and the water is very quiet. If you like disco and nightclubs, Cancun is the place for you. The beach is nice, but there are too many waves. We stayed in Cancun our last three days in M もっと読む

El hotel está bien para su precio. Muy bien situado. El desayuno es el punto más débil, es muy poco variado y suelen tardar mucho en servir. La mayoría de los empleados, sobre todo el gerente, son muy amables y profesionales.

Excellente situation (plein centre, proche de la mer et des clubs de plongée) tut en étant un peu à l'écart de la 5e avenue (ce qui permet de dormir, la nuit).. Accueil très amical des 2 managers et du personnel. Chambre très spacieuse et bien équipée (king size bed, grande douche, clim, TV, réfrigérateur et coffre indivduel).
