Metropole Hotel rooms are small and plain but clean. Prices are excellent, and if your interest is access to the shopping district of Shanghai the location couldn't be better.

"In need of some TLC"

This was my second stay at the hotel, this time I decided to pay a little extra and stay in a suite. I should not have bothered as a basic room is on par with the suite I was given. The window catches were broken so it was noisy all of the time, the heater did not work so I was cold as well. The attachment holding the shower was broken so I had to hold that while I showered and the fridge door refused to stay closed. The Metropole has only one thing in it's favour and that is its location. It is handy for everywhere. However the rooms are grubby, this place desperately needs a refurbishment. On arrival I was given a smoking room with two single beds, I had booked a non smoking with double bed. The hotel fixed this and to be fair offered reasonable service.

"Close to major points,improvements needed"

The hotel had a convenient location to the main shopping areas and to Bund and that made the stay convenient. The Service was outstanding, everybody was going out of their way to service and help us. Breakfast was nothing for westerners to talk about.... Room service was great. Big minus was in our last room no CNN or DFW,and some mold on the out side wall. A Hotel with charme of the 30's and flair, but the upkeep was not the best. One complaint or better an improvement for Hotels.com, no taxi driver can read English, so please have the address and name of the hotel available on the confirmation in Chinese.All travelers would appreciate that.
