This was our first time at the McArthur Inn and it was a very nice surprise. The rooms are individual little "casitas" so it doesn't feel a all like a hotel. When you wake up in the moring and open the windows you are in the middle of a beautiful green, plush garden. The ceilings are high and decorated very "refeshing" with white lines. I didn't eat […] at "Saddles" the restaurant, but as I walked by in the evening, it was full and I could hear many conversations inside. It sounded like everying was enjoying themselves. I did take a look at the room service menu and it had a variety of meals and was affordable. I whish we would have stayed an additional day to enjoy the pool and restaurant. Walking distance from the main square. Very pleasant country atmosphere. Highly recommended.

We had a very nice stay in this charming hotel.Nice pool, gardens and spa. Only complaint was difficulty in regulating the too hot shower in room and spa. Great massage and breakfast spread.

Great and restful time at MacArthur Place. Facility was very clean and quiet. Wine and cheese reception was excellent! Check-in staff was super friendly. Food at breakfast was fantastic. However, the b'fast restaurant staff could have been more friendly and attentive. Would definitely come back!

Uncompromising service! First night highway noise at room facing street caused us to move, which was done quickly and cheerfully. Beautiful rooms!

This hotel was great. The room was beautiful and clean and newly remodeled. They gave us an upgrade without even requesting it. The complimentary breakfast was fresh and great quality. Staff was attentive and friendly. The spa was quaint and lovely. Had a great massage. I've been to a lot of hotels and spas...many with five star ratings....Four seasons, […] the Ritz, etc...and this was by far my best massage. The pool is heated so you can use it even in the winter! Very nice stay. The spa and the pool location very nice!

My friend and I arrived on Dec 31, 2011 around 7pm after a wonderful day visiting/tasting wine in the near by areas. It was a last minute trip to do something different for New Years and we will never forget it! We did not have prior dinner reservations and the MacArthur Place staff went right to work looking for a place on line while I was checking […] in and made dinner reservations for us downtown within walking distance...but we drove. I was a bit hungry and while one staff was making dinner reservations another went in the back and came out with a great looking plate of cheese, crackers and fruit for us to take to our room. The customer service was wonderful and the room was fabulous. Very cozy..and I loved the bathroom:). In the morning I took a walk alone around the grounds, it was much larger than I thought, very relaxing...a great garden setting. I can't wait to return for a girls weekend. Amazing hotel in a great location fantastic staff breakfast to die for . Chese and vino tasting at night in the library next to the fire place with Mary Jane is must . I absolutely loved this charming, romantic hotel. The rooms were cozy and clean. The surrounding area was very green and leafy.

Well located. A series of buildings set around lovely gardens with meandering paths. Swimming pool, fountains, sculptures. A 5 minute drive to the town's center plaza or just a 20 minute stroll. 64 rooms total with maybe 4 to 6 in any given building. Comfortable room. Quiet. Good bathroom with plenty of counter space. Could use a shaving mirror. Large […] closet. No HD on the TV. Wonderful gardens with meandering paths. Swimming pool. Saddles restaurant on the property. Food is good, not spectacular. Service varies. Setting very nice. Library with fireplace, plenty of books and an excellent wine and cheese offering from 5:00 to 6:00. Included. The continental breakfast (included in the price) was good with a large selection of breads, fruits and juices. Just 3 cereals. Plus a bread pudding. Excellent service. Friendly and helpful staff and beautiful grounds even in November. Room was large and spacious Breakfast was excellent In this price range, I feel the room should have had a full length mirror, a shoehorn and a comfortable chair, not just a daybed

The McAurthur Hotel was really nice. We had a suite that was upgraded when we got there (non peak). The room was beautifully decorated and comfortable. It had a nice porch area, large bathroom, sitting area with retractable lounge chairs and fireplace. It was very clean as well. The staff was great. Always willing to help. The location was great […] as well. We did have a car but I think the center of town is in walking distance and must be visited especially the Girl and the Fig for an apetizer or any of the cool stores for shopping. Not to mention how close it is to the wineries. The hotel also had awesome grounds with plants and sculptures making a stroll through them very entertaining. The continental breakfast that came with the room had more than we needed and we are good eaters. Parking was right in front of our room making in and out easy. All in all a great experience and we would definitely will go back. We had a girls weekend in sonoma and loved this hotel! It was beautiful, clean and perfect for our getaway. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Nothing luxurious about this hotel. The pool is old. There is not bar service at the pool. Not worth the money.

The MacArthur Place is a charming property. I loved the way it was laid out. Charming gardens, beautiful flowered walk ways - just really pretty. The room was decently large, comfortable & clean. You will likely hear some road noise but it wasn't distrubing at all and I think you'll be hard pressed to find a hotel in the area that doesn't have the same […] problem. The location was great - a good walk to the square for dinners but it's not too far. Also the bike rentals on site were really handy (and an affordable option) and the continental breakfast was good. We loved this hotel. Perfect location for exploring Sonoma County. Walking distance to the square for dinner (or a 2 minute drive). There was also a great little, more modern pub about 2 blocks away. We really liked MacArthur a lot. What you don't realize upon arriving is how large the place really is. There are several smaller "houses" that make up the property & give it a small but exclusive feel. We wouldn't have known if we hadn't taken time to walk around the property a bit. It's an easy walk to get to the town square which had a lot of cute […] little stores & some nice restaurants.. The room was large and had a walk-in closet. What a terrific place to stay!! Everything was superb!!

What a lovely place! The rooms are spacious and cute and the bathroom is fantastic! There are thoughtful little details throughout the hotel (makeup removing pads, comfortable robes, chocolates with evening turndown service), and the daily wine and cheese parties are great opportunities to meet other guests. We also got a lot of use out of the chess […] set and the ping pong table by the pool/hot tub. We LOVED the staff and saved a lot of money by using the bicycles supplied by the hotel instead of renting from a shop to explore the wineries. I would sum this up by saying Mac Arthur Place was more than just a hotel, it was an experience. Every detail was thought out and it was the smoothest experience. Being a downtown Chicagoan, I was a bit skeptical about an "inn type" but there were modern amenities, peaceful, quiet and excellent location to SFO, Napa and Sonoma square. Went for a night and weather was pouring; hotel room super cozy and inviting. Great continental breakfast, and close by to downtown. Definitely has the quiet, spa retreat feel. We went a couple years ago and it's nice to see the property is still kept up really nicely.

Beautiful atmosphere, comfortable, private room, wonderful staff.

The grounds are beautiful for this hotel with some unexpected sculptures and niceties... like an outdoor chess set. My normal experience with B&B's are in a more intimate setting than this, MacArthur Place has quite a few more buildings than I was expecting, but their library wine tasting and friendliness of the staff definitely made it feel more homey. […] The location is great as we used it as a launching spot for a walking tour of Sonoma. Beautiful place, older restored buildings--immaculate grounds with lots of pretty gardens. Housekeeping did great job, turned down beds, closed blinds, put chocolate on pillows, etc. Free wine and cheese every evening and free breakfast buffet every morning. Convenient to quaint town square, and wine country.

When we arrived we were able to check in early which was very nice. The grounds were very pretty with a lot of interesting sculptures. The pool was very nice although it was February and the sun was shining. After wine tasting, we headed back to the hotel and last minute booked massages. They gave us a coupon for $20 off each massage. Great quiet spa […] rooms and nice to have separate steam rooms. We went back to our room to relax and change for dinner at the Saddleback Restaurant at the Inn. My husband said it was the best Steak he ever had. And the wait staff and ambiance were terrific. We were so tired, and headed back to the room to relax and watch a little television. We both fell asleep in the super quiet surroundings. The only thing negative was that the rooms above us had wood flooring and the guests came back to their room at 3a.m. and made so much noise and banging we had a hard time getting back to a sound sleep. Ended up at the complimentary continental breakfast which was quite extensive. A nice balance of protiens, carbs and whole grains. The staff in the morning was super attentive and helpful replacing our coffee, tea water and plates very efficiently. Super nice too. After breakfast and reading the paper for an hour we headed over to the small but nice workout room. Had a treadmill, recumbant bike, and Precor climber. Also a universal weight machine, dumbells and various exercise ropes and balls and bands. There was no bathtub in our std. King room, but a pretty nice shower. Also a nice larger window was nice for natural lighting. Oh they also have a great long mirror on the outside of the bathroom door so you could get the full back view while you were dressing and doing your hair. Parking was just about 50-75 feet away but convenient. We did not have a fireplace, but considering the room was in a shady spot with trees and bushes it would have been nice to have one in our room - especially in Winter. MacArthur Place is a gem of a resort (rather than a hotel) with easy access to the main square in Sonoma. Everything is neat and tidy but not stuffy. A very comfortable vacation all round.

First off, they gave us a free upgrade to a Suite. Wine and cheese event at night was very nice. Morning complementary continental breakfast was average, but sufficient to start the day.

A wonderful place to stay and visit the Napa/Sonoma areas. Breakfast and wonderful happy hour included in the price. Meticulously maintained, good spa/workout facilities. Great wine-country ambiance. Just superb!

Great location, nice staff, great steak!

Wonderful experience. Friendly staff, comfortable rooms in condo style buildings, very convenient to the square (can easily walk). Definitely expect to stay here again next time I'm in Sonoma.
