My husband and I are avid travelers and I often blog about my travels. This visit was strictly pleasure and we got a great deal for 2 nights for about 150. The positives: Plenty of activities Room was clean, solid 2.5 star plenty of leisure benches Right on the creek Most of the staff is very helpful Steakhouse is very good (try the prime rib) The […] negatives: We went to the steakhouse and the female manager went around to every table to ask everyone how their meal was. She looked at our table and passed right over us! Other people looked at us in embarrassment and needless to say, we were humiliated. Was it because my husband and I were minorities? I will never know but the last time I checked, my money was still green. At checkout, I voiced my concerns over the steakhouse incident and they seemed genuinely concerned. We received more than we expected from our room, but we were fortunate to get one of the creek side studios. We would not have liked the pool side or parking lot side. Very nice, relaxing, everything we could ask for and more, very helpful, friendly staff, beautiful setting, ah, the creek and the pines!

We came for a weekend getaway from the smog and traffic. I have been coming here since I was a child and it has only improved. The staff is very helpful, friendly, and accommodating. The restaurant serves a delicious breakfast. We loved it so much that we cancelled our summer vacation plans to Disneyland with our four children and booked a cabin for […] a whole week for our family. I am so excited for fishing, hiking, and relaxing creekside. We would definitely recommend it to friends and have recommended it. i think it's ridiculous that you would charge $250.00 on my credit card, just in case I would eat or buy something at the lodge. Don't you trust anyone.? On that note I would never stay at your resorts again!

Our stay was beautiful. Loved the ranch feel. Everyone was very friendly and the area was beautiful, Lots to do. Hiking the stream, playing tennis, and boccee ball. Very clean, and close to Payson. Loved it.

The new cabins they have are beautiful. They by far exceeded my expectations-they need to update their photographs on the web.

Wonderful setting. Room was somewhat old fashioned. Received no maid service.

The friendliness and informational of staff started my stay in a most pleasant way. I can only compliment the management on staff training, excellent maintenance and creature comfort. Can't wait to make another visit.

We had an absolutely amazing time during our stay at Kohls Ranch. The room was great and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It was nice having the restaurant and bar on site as well. We can't wait to go back!

We had a wonderful Stay the staff was very friendly. Great Cod dinner. It was such a nice place out by it's self and quite. The beds were so comfortable and wow a flat Screen TV with a DVD player enjoyed our movie with Pop-Corn, we are planning on going back next month with friends!

The stay was nice, but the location is so far out of the town, and there is nothing near the hotel. Which would be great if the resturant on site was decent. When we got there we went to eat. The girlfriend and I had an impromptu vacation at Kohl's Ranch just prior to Christmas. The location of Kohl's is nearly perfect. Off of the highway and wonderfully quiet it was a GREAT place to catch up on sleep for both of us. With a fridge, microwave and coffee pot handy....we were pretty much ready for the zombie apocalypse should it have happened. […] We brought snacks! ( just in case ) Out of the entire stay we have just a couple minor "complaints" BUT would readily stay there again. Let's get the complaints out of the way. First: the shower in our bathroom was just large enough for elves. Hobbits can wash comfortably, though I believe they prefer baths. Fortunately for my girlfriend, she is elf sized. I, however, am not. I was tempted to bathe in the creek as I could hardly fit in the shower stall. Too, the shower head was really loose and kept dropping groundward making bathing all the more difficult. Next, the restaurant is wonderfully friendly and the service is fast and the food was served hot....but it's a just a bit bland. Not bad...not at all, just slightly bland. Last, I had made four days of reservations...upon checkout at 9 a.m. sharp of our final day I was presented a bill for an extra day. Fortunately, the hostess saw my confusion at the bill and we worked out everything within five minutes. The help was excellent in the regard and had us squared away post haste. Other than those items, our stay was friendly, quiet, relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable. We'll absolutely return as we can be assured that even if there are some difficulties, the staff is friendly and willing to help out at every turn. Thumbs up for Kohl's Ranch. We'll be back. もっと読む

Rustic. Bad time of year to go. Everything was closed except the pool....but it was snowing. The lady that checked us in, think her name was Christine from Los Angeles, Ca. , was very nice and welcoming.

While Kohl's Ranch Lodge may be convenient for hiking the nearby Mogollon Rim, I don't recommend staying there in the off season. The Zane Grey Dining Room, which is attached to the lodge, is closed during the off-season. For dinner and breakfast, you need to drive 18 miles into Payson. Not very convenient.

I appreciate our waitress and bartenders willingness to make sure me and my wife were taken care of!! Could use more of a variety on menu, but overall stay was nice. I woukd recommend the horseback riding! Nice view! Going back in march!!!!

We were pleasantly suprised by the hotel. It definitely was a great experience. The rate was more than reasonable for the amenities we received. I wish we had stayed there 2 days so we would have had more time to do some sightseeing. We got there early in the day and decided to stay there and enjoy the comfort of the pool and the beautiful surrundings […] and weather. Kohl's is out of town and rustic. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel resturant sucks, we only ate there one time. It is worth the drive in either direction to not pay for that disgusting food. So plan ahead for your meals.

Had a great time horseback riding. Scenery was beautiful.

Hotel is about 12 miles outside os Payson, AZ. It's located in the Tonto national forest. It's somewhat remote, but that's what we were looking for. Very friendly staff, clean and grounds are well kept. Lots of activities, and the rim is only a 15 minute drive Great hotel, will visit again

This is definately one of our favorite places to stay. All of the rooms feature a kitchenette, dining table with chairs and a patio. The rooms creekside have the patio facing the creek below. It is an amazing view and a relaxing atmosphere. Our room also had a fireplace which made the evenings perfect.

The room was clean and lodge staff were very friendly. The bed could have been softer.

My stay could not have be any better had a small problem at check in as it turns out only some rooms are pet friendly and I had mistakenly booked one that wasn't but the staff was most helpful and fixed everything and after that not a single problem I would recommend this place to everyone.

My husband and I really enjoyed our trip to Payson. We loved that we stayed at The Kohl's Ranch. It was a very pleasant atmosphere, lots to do, you can take your dog with you if you want. A cozy little getaway.

Had a wonderful time. Room was large and comfortable. The staff was great. Will definitely stay there again.

Very beautiful lodge. Conveniently located in the middle of nowhere for a great get away. Lots of hiking and outdoor activities surrounding the lodge. Strange policy on the door of no guns at the lodge. But if you don't carry one, it really doesn't matter.

This a rustic getaway close to Payson & located in the woods. Very cute. Like the cowboy/ Western decor because it really felt like we were at a themed getaway & made it fun for the kids. Kohl's Ranch was quite nice, The room was updated and clean, grounds were well maintained. Area attractions of interest included a visit to the Zane Gray cabin, period museum, and Fish Hatchery. Going back for another stay is certainly a consideration.

This is an older property but well kept up. Great for families, lots of activities on sight and the restaurant had good food and a cute saloon. I could stay here all summer. I would love to come back and get a cabin on the creek.

The restaurant that is part of Kohls ranch was not what we were hoping for. The food was lacking, rolls were hard, the $18.00 prime rib was terrible (we both had prime rib) the beans were the consistency of drywall spackle. My husband and I (and our dog) snuck away for a long Memorial Day weekend to Kohl's Ranch Lodge. We had a wonderful time! The grounds were beautiful and you could walk right down to the creek. The lodge is a little bit rustic, which we really enjoy. We also really enjoyed how welcoming they were to our dog. The extra charge to have him stay in our room […] with us was not much at all and the room itself was perfectly nice, even though it was one of their "Pet Friendly Suites". This is not a fancy hotel, but it is just what you are looking for if you are familiar with the area -- comfortable, clean, quiet, serene and beautiful. The pool was warm, the hot tub was hot. The water pressure in the shower wasn't great and the shower/toilet room was tiny. We had a toaster, microwave and refrigerator/freezer in our room and a nice, new gas grill outside just down the steps from our deck. We were able to toast bagels for breakfast and grilled a nice meal for dinner. They even had plates, cups and utensils. We had wi-fi access and no cell phone service, which was kind of excellent! We could reach out, but no one could reach us -- nice! In the 50's my parents owned a lot down the road from Kohl's Ranch. It was our general store, and restaurant. In more recent times, it is a place to remember good things. The rooms are wonderful, clean and have great views. I have not stayed in their cabins, but that will be my next adventure there. Thank you, Khol's Ranch.

Having grown up visiting the Payson area in the 40's and 50's, we five sisters decided to stay at Kohl's Ranch, not because we had heard of the motel's reputation, but because we wanted to revisit the memories of our youth. Kohls Ranch turned out to be just right in all respects! My husband and I had eaten at the Zane Grey restaurant inside Kohls Ranch on camping trips up on the rim but have never stayed overnight there. Lovely setting, convenient location to Mogollon Rim. Refrigerator and microwave and even some dishes for breakfast makes it easy to get going on a hike in the morning. Room very clean, bathroom quite small but adequate. Staff helpful.

This is a great place to stay to unwind, romantic getaway, family get together. Lots of amenitiesand things to do. Even Horseback Riding and you can bring your own. Only complaint we had was the bed was too hard for us, but everything else was wonderful. Great restaurant too.

We decided, last minute, to travel to Payson during spring break. To our surprise, after contacting Hotels.com, we were told that there was availability at Kohl's Ranch Lodge. We've passed by there many times on our Rim adventures, and had heard wonderful things about the Ranch, but this was our first opportunity to stay there. We jumped at the chance, […] and were very, very satisfied with our experience. The scenery is beautiful, the creek was flowing, there were fun activities for us to do as a family, and the hotel was pet friendly. What more can one ask for when looking for a weekend away? The room was a basic studio with a gas fireplace. It was nice to have the kitchen amenities, we brought snack for our dinner. In the morning we walked around the grounds and found great activities for kids and adults, even the dogs. Next time we will pick a room with a creek view and jacuzzi and bring the kids and dog.
