Mid-rises and mansions grace the leafy streets of Dupont Circle, where independent cafes and shops thrive. With a number of gay bars and businesses, this area is DC’s main gay neighborhood. Foreign flags fly high on Embassy Row, the stretch of Massachusetts Avenue from the Circle to the National Zoo and National Cathedral. At night, locals head north to Adams Morgan for drinks and live music.

I was really pleasantly surprised with my recent stay at the Normandy. The service was exceptional, and the room, although on the smaller side, was comfortable, charming, cozy and well laid out. The location was also excellent: the metro is a short walk away, cabs are easy to catch, and there are plenty of wonderful restaurants in the surrounding neighborhood, […] which was safe, clean and attractive. Overall, I had a great experience. もっと読む
"Unfriendly from start"
I arrived to the Normandy Hotel an hour before check-in and was greeted by Milicia. She asked my room preference and I told her I reserved a King deluxe. She abruptly stated that they did not have king beds, the hotel was sold out. She gave me the smallest room with a view of a roof and a structure covering most of our window. I was the earliest to […] check in, was asked my preference for a room, yet was given the smallest one. Being there before other guests, I should have gotten what I reserved. I went down to the front desk and Milicia was replaced by a man who patiently listened and offered my spouse and I a free continental breakfast. I said I didn't think that would make up for the room we reserved and, obviously embarrassed, he agreed, consulted his database, and found king deluxe rooms would be available the next day. He told me to come back in the morning and request the king. I went back in the morning and was greeted by Milicia whose smile disappeared. She told me she had to see if any were available because they might be sold out for the week, and I told her the gentleman I spoke with the night before informed me plenty would be opening up this morning. She became more visibly irritated, but found a room for us to move to. Our stay improved with the room change, but I'm still not happy with the fact that I was lied to and taken advantage of. This was to be an anniversary getaway for my spouse and I, and the first night of it was just an unpleasant experience. もっと読む
"Love the Normandy, not the breakfast"
The staff, rooms, service, location are all great. I just didn't like having to pay $17 for breakfast when all I had was a cup of coffee and a bagel with cream cheese. But I will definitely make the Normandy my go-to place when traveling to DC in the future.
"Good location, terrible hotel."
Hated the hotel. Room was tiny. Noisy hallways. No water pressure in shower. Light bulbs needed replacement. Dirty coffee spoons and mug left from previous guest. We asked front desk to arrange car service for the following morning and they forgot so we had to run around looking for taxi. This is a third rate hotel in a great neighborhood that charges […] way too much for tiny, lousy rooms and bad service. もっと読む

"Nice hotel, but quite a trek from the metro"
My fiance and I got off the Metro at Dupont Circle and it was quite the walk uphill with luggage to the hotel, perhaps about 10-15 minutes. We could have taken a cab but the walk is not too terrible. The hotel is nestled between an embassy and what appeared to be condos or apartments. Checking in went smoothly and we were pleased to learn that a computer […] terminal with a printer next to the check-in desk was available 24/7. The hotel offers continental breakfast but we didn't avail of it. Our room was on the 2nd floor; there's only one elevator and it's pretty small but we fit in there with our small luggage. The room itself was also on the small side, but adequate. Bed was very comfy. There was a small comfy chair as well as a desk. The HDTV was nice and we also had a DVD player (which we didn't use though). The room also came with a mini-fridge and an espresso machine, probably the highlight of my trip. It uses K cups but the drinks were pretty good. Bathroom was also on the small side. If you're looking for a tub, you won't find it here though. We only had a shower stall but that was fine for our needs. My only complaint was that our room was missing towels when we first arrived, but a quick call to the front desk remedied the situation. The next morning, housekeeping gave us extra towels so that was nice. I'm not sure if the hotel is pet-friendly, but we could hear a dog barking every so often during our stay. Also, there were some repairs being made outside our window one morning we were there; it started around 8 so it wasn't too bad. Other than that, it was pretty quiet. The hotel offers free wireless and it was more or less reliable while we were there, but on the slow side during peak hours. It was convenient that the hotel was within walking distance of many Dupont Circle restaurants and stores. We ate quite a few of our meals in the area since the hotel only offers continental breakfast and doesn't have its own restaurant. Checkout went well. We were g もっと読む
The room was quite small, but very cozy and the bed was excellent. The Bathroom was really nice and modern. All in all everything had a high standard. I have nothing to complain about.
"The Normandy Hotel, Washington"
Simple things make a difference... at the Normandy it was that the included internet worked, and that I was greeted on at least two occasions with a most welcome, "would you like a glass of wine, sir?" The public rooms were closed for reflooring during my stay, but the very competitive rate and proximity to cafes and restaurants with seemingly-endless […] happy hours meant it didn't matter that much. もっと読む
"Loved the Normandy in DC!"
Beautiful hotel in a quiet area. Very unique decor, soooo comfortable!! Amazing shower!! Very close to the metro and only a mile from all the must see sights of DC! Anything you may need you can find nearby. I would definitely say-Stay at the Normandy!
"Wonderful boutique hotel"
The Normandy is our home away from home. Even though renovations were going on, the staff still managed to provide the nightly indulgence, and go out of their way.
"normandy"
The temperature would not go lower than 74. There was dust from the rennovations. I saw a cockroach in the bathroom. Drapes are not room darkening.

"The Normandy in DC - perfect for a getaway"
I met up with some friends for a few days away. This hotel was in a nice neighborhood within walking distance from the White House and the zoo. It was a great price, clean, and the service was wonderful. I loved the common area for finding a comfortable chair to read while my roommate slept. Now, downsides that weren't issues to me, but things to consider. […] Wireless was almost nonexistent in our fourth floor room - it was really strong downstairs, so I think there was just a central hub. (I was ok just using my smart phone, which had great reception). Breakfast was pricey (but there are 2 Starbucks, as well as other places, nearby). Between the hotel and Dupont Circle was a fairly steep hill, but not unbearable to climb (and Adam Morgan metro station is actually closer). There is also only a big, gorgeous shower and no tub if you are a bath person or with small kids. I will definitely consider this hotel for vacation again. もっと読む
"Wine, Cheese, and Comfort!"
Absolutely one of the BEST hotels that I've ever stayed in. As soon as you check in, you are welcomed to enjoy the FREE wine and cheese happy hour (I think it goes from 6-7pm) in the downstairs area with plenty of sitting options. Just a wonderful way to unwind from a hectic day of traveling. Once you get into your room, you are enveloped by a stunningly […] stylish environment, comfortable bed, beautiful bathroom and shower, and even an espresso machine! (At least, my room had an espresso machine). Definitely would recommend to a friend and anyone who is interested in something other than your standard hotel experience. Also, we we were checking out (at 5am) the concierge made sure we had a bottled water and an apple to start our day with. Just lovely. もっと読む

"Normandy Hotel in DC"
Our room was very nicely decorated and clean. The view out of our window was unappealing because of construction work. (scaffolding platform and blue canvas tarps) We stayed for 5 nights and there was no place to put our cloths or suitcases. The closet was extremely small as well. The room would be OK if you were one person or just staying for one night. […] The staff was very friendly and the cookies were delicious. もっと読む
"Great Location"

"Charming Boutique Hotel"
The Normandy is a charming boutique hotel, reminiscent of top European hotels. The downstairs, however, has large, comfortable, attractive sitting rooms. The bedrooms are not large, but recently and beautifully redone, with every comfort. Well located, near Dupont Circle. Lovely service. Can't go wrong!
"Perfect for people who love Boutique hotels"
There's an area between inns and boutique hotels that places like the Normandy Hotel live in. If you like the traditional mold of what regular hotels are like, you may not like this place, as it fits firmly in that category. But this doesn't it a bad hotel, FAR from it - it just means that boutique hotels aren't for you. If you're looking for that […] personal service touch and the quiet luxury and charm of a boutique establishment, the Normandy Hotel is one of the best places you can stay. When I entered the hotel, a gentleman came to the door to greet me. I didn't know this was the same man who would check me in. I arrived during the evening wine reception. The hotel manager asked if I would like to join them but I was eager to get to my room. He then escorted me to the elevator. When I got to my room, I immediately understood what people were talking about when they said the room was small - however they are technically incorrect. If you go to their site, the room is exactly the stated size (I stayed in the suite with the King bed). As someone who frequents lots of Vegas Strip hotels, I think this perception comes from the idea that the absence of a long hallway means the room is small. Rather, space has been smartly economized. To give you an idea, the hallway is indeed short and narrow, and suite here doesn't mean two rooms - in DC it almost always means there is room for furniture other than the bed in the room. There's only the bathroom and the bedroom unless they've otherwise specified in a dc hotel listing. This bedroom had room for a King sixed bed, with two end tables on either side, and plenty of room for a full sized adult to stand. At the foot of the bed, there's a table the TV sits on, about the width of the bed, with ample room for one to work with a 15 inch monitor. A chair sits in front of this desk, then off in the corner, there's an sitting room chair and and ottoman. This hotel doesn't have room service, but it's not as if they pretend that t もっと読む

Highly recommend. Staff was helpful and always courteous. Staff gave good recommendations on where to dine w/in walking distance. Would stay here again.
"Classy and close"
This was a wonderful hotel with a great staff. It was conveniently located to my conference so that was an extra plus. The nightly wine and cheese hour is a nice touch. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. This hotel understands the importance of "attention to detail". Beautiful rooms, smaller but gorgeous. Comfortable, great bathrooms and […] extra touches. I will stay here again. もっと読む
The thermostat in the room did not work. Heat stayed at 75 degrees. Drapes are not light proof and street lights were at window level. Beautiful room and linens, but hard to sleep with heat and light.

"Excellent Simplicity"
Hotel had a European feel to it and the hotel staff were very friendly. The rooms were a little bit on the small side but that also varies by person and room type. Bathrooms were very sleek and modern and the espresso machine was a nice additional feature. I have traveled quite a bit and if I ever return to DC I will definitely choose the Normandy […] again - thanks for the great stay. もっと読む
"Hotel Normandy: cozy in the best possible way"
Hotel Normandy is small and intimate, with a few thoughtful touches that made for a comfortable and pleasant stay. The room was on the small side, but had lots of bonus features: a gorgeous single cup coffee machine with real cups & spoons, a mini-fridge for my leftovers, an adjustable bedside reading lamp, and a real, plug-in multi-setting hair dryer […] instead of the annoying hi-lo wall unit in most chain hotels. Downstairs, the lounge had throw blankets for curling up by the fire, and the sunny breakfast room was charming. Made business travel feel like a vacation. もっと読む
"Wonderful experience..quaint, beautiful hotel"
This hotel is beautifully done. It is elegant but remains comfortable. Their sitting room with a fireplace was particularly cozy. Staff were helpful, location was easy, and the price was amazing especially for the quality of the experience. My only complaint was that we were charged expensively for breakfast which I thought was included and they charged […] us a fee for having the front desk arrange a taxi for us. I should also mention that we had our 2 young children with us and they made every accommodation possible to make our stay enjoyable. もっと読む
"The Hotel Normandy- amazing location!"
When staying at the Hotel Normandy, you are within a 20 minute walk from mostly all the great places to explore in DC. Although it was cold and raining/snowing, it was so easy to get to Adams Morgan (great place to go get food or go out!), Dupont Circle (major metro hub also with cool places to eat), and the U district (awesome boutiques and restuarants). […] Although the walk to the White House/Smithsonian Museums was a bit lengthy (about 35 minutes), on a gorgeous day it would be no big deal at all! In general, the Normandy's staff is great- they serve a compimentary wine and cheese every night! I'd definitely recommend it! もっと読む

"Normandy Hotel Rocks!"
Excellent location - just a brisk walk away from Dupont Circle. Very friendly, helpful staff. Seasonal beautiful big red apples a welcome sight at the front desk and very good value for money - we were out of season. Great boutique hotel for our family of four. Would stay there again.
"Great hotel"
Very affordable and terrific staff will make your vacation one to remember! Wine and cheese night was great, I got to meet very friendly Irish people and a brilliant philosophical American, now in Turkey teaching Professor. I would stay here again!
"Excellent on all accounts"
Great price, great location, great room and bathroom, great on cleanliness, great staff downstairs...couldn't ask for a better stay and will stay there every time I come to D.C. Parking in the neighborhood is an issue if looking to park on the street as there are several embassies and private homes in the area.
"The Normandy Hotel -- a good bargain"
I was able to book this hotel using a last-minute deal and was thrilled. It was a quality hotel and a good location for the price. The staff were friendly and the room was very clean. There is a parking garage, but we did not use it. On-street parking was hit-or-miss, but that was to be expected.
"A great spot"
The Normandy is a handsomely appointed boutique hotel just above Dupont Circle. The decor is stylish and the atmosphere is gracious. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful. Our room was quite small, but otherwise we enjoyed our stay.
"Really rude staff, good location, small but comfy"
Both men that we dealt with at the hotel were just rude or not friendly for no reason and about nothing. There was a very nice woman there who was friendly answered questions and gave us water. Some other reviews talked about water and chocolate being given at check-out. That wasn't our experience.
"very friendly staff"
Staff were very nice. Hello when I arrived back from meetings, Good evening as I headed out to supper, Good evening when I returned. Cocktail hour wine and cheese were above average, and free apples were really nice. Compared to large chains nearby, this was markedly cheaper and more genteel.
The hotel is in a nice neighborhood, easy to walk to Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle dining and night life. Other posts have mentioned the size of the room -- they aren't kidding, folks. We were in a double-queen room -- both beds were pushed against their respective side walls, and there was only 3 feet, max, between them. At the foot of the bed, there […] was maybe 4 feet between the foot of the bed and the wall, 18 inches of which were taken up by a long desk. It's cramped. And if you're planning to do much work, don't count on the desk -- 2/3's of it is taken up by an admittedly nice flat-screen TV, leaving about 2 linear feet of working space. Having said that, it's a lovely room -- high ceilings, crown molding, comfy beds with lots of pillows, a nice bathroom with a large shower. A terry-cloth robe is provided, along with a couple of umbrellas in case of rain. Iron and ironing board were included (but where you'd set it up is a bit problematic.) There's an espresso machine in the room, but it took a while to figure out how to work it (the direction are INSIDE a wooden box in a drawer underneath the "bar". The mini-fridge is empty -- good place to stash soft drinks, etc. There is a garage -- but unless you're driving a SmartCar or a Mini Cooper, it's a VERY tight squeeze. Overnight parking was close to $30 a night. You have to call the front desk for access in and out -- one time, we waited almost two minutes for the door to be raised. When you enter the garage, there's a sharp 90-degree turn at the foot of the ramp, and only 8-10 parking spots. We were driving a mid-size sedan, and parking took at least 6-10 adjustments to avoid poles, other cards, walls, etc. To exit, one had to carefully back up past the exit ramp to be pointed in the right direction to access the ramp. When a car did a poor job parking beside us, it took us almost 15 minutes to get out of the parking garage without hitting anything. Street parking is somewhat available at night, but cars must もっと読む
"Very nice hotel, small room, efficiently organized"
Great hotel and amenities, walking distance to Adams Morgan. The room was a little small but we didn't mind because we had everything we needed and it was very well organized within the space.
"The Normandy Hotel"
The hotel itself was beautiful and very well-decorated. The staff, however, was another story. One of the front desk attendants was rude, falsely accused my boyfriend and I of breaking hotel policy, and was overall unpleasant and prejudiced. Not to mention that my card was grossly overcharged, after I had paid online. I won't be staying there again […] . もっと読む

"The Normady: quiet, European-style hotel in DC"
The location was perfect: I walked to work in Dupont Circle. Breakfasts were European-style and excellent without being a groaning board. The free wine and hor d'oeuvres hour every evening by a fireplace was lovely. Three newspapers greeted me daily! Really good apples at the desk daily. Staff appropriately trained and helpful when asked.
