We booked one street back from the main area, but honestly it was fantastic. The Hotel provided wine and cheese in the foyer in the evening and a very substantial breakfast the following day.

This hotel was the perfect fit for a 3 day getaway for my husband, myself and our one year old daughter. I gave this hotel high star ratings while keeping in mind this is a 2.5 star property. It is not the Ritz Carlton, but it far exceeded our expectations for service and location. The front desk was kind and helpful. The location was perfect. We parked the car and didn't touch a steering wheel again for 4 days. Which is bliss when you are dealing with car seats. We just strolled everywhere - aquarium, restaurants - even down to Fisherman's Wharf. Breakfast was fine - especially if you just need hot water for baby cereal and a bagel. This hotel's location was great. It was right off the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail and a quick walk to everything we wanted to go to - Aquarium, recreation trail, great restaurants on Lighthouse Ave., Cannery Row. Great location, the ocean, cannery row and great restaurants are all within walking distance. Hotel is clean and well maintained, the parking is free, but very cramped. the free breakfast is about what you would expect, we had it once and we also had the breakfast at the schooner in the Monterey Plaza Hotel and spa across the street. Rooms are spacious […] and have large flatscreen TVs with DirectTV and HBO. Hallways are out side and although there is an elevator you may find yourself walking up and down stairs anyway depending on where your room is located. Booked this place after staying in a B&B in Pacific Grove and feeling just a bit too far away, and a bit too old. = ) This hotel is maybe 200 yards from the bay, and caddy corner from the Plaza hotel and its coffee shop and Schooner's restaurant. The beach walking/bike path cuts right across the front sidewalk. The Cannery Row Brewing Co is 2 blocks. […] You get the idea- RIGHT in the heart of things. Parking is below in a garage, which is snug and not for parking challenged. But it's free. Our room was a king and it was huge. This was the more expensive of the two king room options and though the details on the website weren't crystal clear, it was obviously a suite. We had a pull out couch and plenty of room for the baby's crib. Bathroom was clean and modern. We had a fridge but no microwave. Overall great room. The breakfast wasn't bad; lots of options, sausage, bacon, biscuits, yogurt, juices, cereals, breads, etc. They even have a pancake dispenser! Too unique not to try. You will not mistake any of the food for gourmet, and some of it could certainly have been out for a few hours (days?). But if you're just looking for a bite, or feeding a big family, it's a steal. Our one complaint was the bizarre split level setup. We had to park on the upper ramp of the parking garage, then wheel our luggage cart down the ramp to the elevator. Rode the elevator up to 2, walked 3 feet and hit a staircase! I walked ahead to see and sure enough our room was 8 steps below the landing- no way to wheel anything there. So I had to carry everything the rest of the way, but the bigger issue is leaving your valuables in the landing while you lug stuff to the room. Nothing they can do about it now, it's just weird and something you'll want to plan for when unpacking/packing. The desk guys were attentive and polite and even let me use their microwave. This hotel has a gorgeous outdoor courtyard, nice clean rooms and helpful front desk folks. What they do not have is the normal Express laundry facilities, gym or microwave. If these are unimportant, then this is a great place. Great location and quite nice.

Nice and clean and in a good location... buta bit pricey for just a double bed....

Location was great. Easy, convenient underground parking. Room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. Included breakfast was perfect for us. I would definitely stay there (and other Holiday Express Motels) again. Best of all was the value. Saved us at least $150.00 per day. What a value.

Holdiay Inn Express...good standard hotel. Good location. Easy walking to local attractions.

you can find Holidays Inn like this one all over the US. My room had a subpar heating system, but it was clean, and good value for the location

Good hotel. Hotel staffs are friendly and kind. One little problem is up down stairs on the collidor even on a same level floor. Not convenient for heavy luggage carrier.

LOve this place, every time I go to Monterey I stay here, my kids love it close to everything, staff is great!

This hotel is located in the middle of cannery row on wave street. Walking distance to fishermans wharf and the Aquarium. Hotel is clean and they feed you breakfast. We have stayed in this hotel many times and expect to go back.

What a delight, staff so helpful and accommodating. Ideally situated for everything we wanted to see. My husband was delighted to see the Sea Otters in the bay. Room was perfect, the courtyards were a delight too. Could not have asked for more - then the bonus of free wine and cheese to meet other guests. Would love to go back and do it all again.

Stayed for one night as family with three children aged 9 - 17yrs. Two good beds for four of us - a big thing for me, though the sofa bed was just ok for our fifth member. Great location, quiet and within walking distance to great eatery options for dinner. Breakfast was great too. Would certainly consider staying again.

The location is great, just a short walk to Cannery Row and the aquarium. The hotel is a obviously older, but in great condition. The room is a little smal but adequate. The courtyard and grounds are beautiful.

Very nice hotel. Nice service, room was well maintained. The only down fall, if I have to say 1 is that the layout of the hotel was not easy to get from front desk to room. Up and down stairs with luggage was difficult. Other than that, it is a very nice and convenient to all activities.

I would have given this hotel 5 stars all the way down except for one thing. The gaps around the door were very noticeable. The light that shine through was a little much. My wife (7mos pregnant) and I took our two year old daughter to the aquarium. The location of the hotel is only a 7min walking distance to the aquarium and all the restaurants. The hotel staff was kind enough to allow us to park all day before checking in so that we could walk to the aquarium. Did I mention, my wife was 7mos pregnant and it only took […] us 7min to walk to the aquarium. Well, maybe not exactly 7min (I don't want publish false information), the point is, it is any easy, short walk with one hill. The staff was nice and the room and grounds were very clean. However, I will give you three items to note if you plan to stay here. 1) The hotel has a multi-level design. There are levels that you must walk down and then up stairs (after exiting the elevator) to get to your room. Therefore, making it difficult if you have a stroller and lots of bags. Ask for a room near the elevator (same level) if you have a stroller or wheelchair. 2) The eating area is also the lobby. If you have a large family or group, you will not fit in the 3 or 4 small tables available for eating. 3) The west side or back side of the hotel gets a lot of noise from the street (trucks, cars etc.). Although this a fairly decent place, my 1 star rating reflects the incorrect advertisement of a hot tub on site. The hot tub is CLOSED after the hotel was cited for failing to have handicap access and hand rails. A major part of my decision to book there was because I was ending a weeklong camping trip down the California coast in Monterey. They (HI Express and every booking site) still advertise an open and functioning spa. Don't be fooled like I was! If a hot tub is an important feature, as it was in my case, I would look elsewhere. Easy to find, very comfortable hotel. Some of rooms difficult to access if have mobility issues but overall very nice. Great Location, excellent breakfasts.

Can walk to Cannery Row and all nearby attractions. Wine and cheese offered at happy hour nice but not elegant. Same for buffet breakfast. Dining area is front lobby and could use remodeling. Staff pleasant and very helpful. Kid oriented so families welcome.
