The staff was very friendly and helpful. Service was always prompt and delivered by a friendly representative of the hotel. The room was nicely decorated, comfortable and clean. Restaurant food and service was also very good. Located at the end of the island, the hotel grounds and surrounding area is quiet and serene.

Overall the stay was great, the hotel is right on the beach. The staff is very polite and helpful. The rooms could use some upgrading.

We had a great time while at the resort. It was very quiet and secluded. I will definately be back when my husband comes home. The room was very nice.

It was a wonderful stay. The hotel is great but the weather did not cooperate-windy, cool, damp. I will stay again in warmer weather. It was very quiet and nice.

The rooms were of average cleanliness and condition. Our suites were of good size and had good accommodations, despite a few appliances being a bit worn. My wife and I spent one night at the Resort. We were very impressed with the graciousness and competence of the staff, with the beach at our doorstep, with the cafe on site, with the parking. It was ok but overpriced. I had a tasty lunch, but the worse service from a young male waiter that I have had in a long time! He served hot tea in a mug, no saucer, with two plastic stirrers in it, and nothing to put the used t bag on.

Closets were broken...unable to use. Sofa bed uncomfortable. No full sized coffee maker in room..had to purchase one. Unable to use Internet...unavailable! Bedroom was very small and tight..two full beds not queens.. Bathroom paint was peeling near floor. The whole room needed lots of TLC. Price of room way over-priced for what we got. We live close (2 hour drive) and enjoy staying at Shell Island for beach weekends in the off season. The beach is wonderful, and many one-bedroom suites have been nicely updated. The hotel was located on the beach. I guess each unit in independently owned so the pictures on the website are not necessarily representative of the room you will get. I reserved a premium king room at a premium rate and was very disappointed. The couch had some brown stain so I had to sit on a towel. Besides that it was the moist uncomfortable couch […] I have ever sat it. The curtains have brown stains that I have no idea what they are. The rest of the decor is dated. There were renovations due to hurricane damaged going on and the work was directly out our window. This has to be done, but a warning would have been nice. I had workers outside all day and a crane lifting stuff past the window. I am not saying I would not stay here, but, unit 418 is not what I would call a premium unit by any means and the couch and curtains need to be replaced. もっと読む

definitely recommend. staff very kind and helpful. clean indoor and outdoor pools. great access to a private beach. only problem was the suite says it sleeps 6 and unless you like sleeping on a 3inch cardboard pull out couch mattress i would keep it to a party of four.

We loved our room and the hotel in general. Loved the location. What we didn't like was the construction crane just outside our window and the working bieng done starting at 8 in the morning. A warning about this would have been the correct thing to do.

The view from this hotel makes one's entire stay worth it! Although there were some refining touches that could be added to the hotel rooms, the view and beach experience are incomparable. One of the most breath-taking ocean scenes we ever experienced. As for accommodations, we were so grateful for the fully functioning kitchen--stove, refrigerator, […] microwave, pots, pans, plates, silver wear, etc., the indoor and outdoor pool, and the laidback atmosphere the hotel provided. We would suggest bringing your own bottle opener, though. Apart from that, although it is not The Ritz, Shell Island was a very comfortable, functional, and worthwhile place to stay. I was completely satisfied with my stay. One strange thing that confused me was they had a sign in lobby stating they apologized for the condition of the hotel because they were repairing hurricane damage. Even though I can't remember a hurricane coming through those parts for a few years. How long does it take?

Our first time seeing the NC shore and the location and room were very good - view was spectacular - just needs some updating & paint in the hallways. But, the shower was lousy - it's the shower heads - they are so cheap. The center is a solid medallion so that no water is hitting you directly - only on the outer rim of the shower head so you can't […] get wet or rinse off soap or rinse your hair out - it was really awful and being at the beach - don't know how you'd get the ocean salt out??? Other people must have complained and it's an easy fix - get better shower heads for heavens sake! Women especially won't like this one bit! If you were getting ready for something important - this would be a major problem - you don't feel good, clean or rinsed off when you get out. We stayed from 12-22-11 through12-25-11. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by two delightful staff members. These units are individually owned and furnished. I didn't care for the room we were assigned. When I mentioned this to the staff, we were immediately shown a different room, which was teriffic. I liked the full sized ktchen and room and wall furnishings. […] Every room has a fantastic full view of the beach and the ocean with beach access right outside the resort--no searching for a beach entry. The resort is located at the very end of a neighborhood--no commercial recreation or sites to see; however, within 5 min. you are in the small town area; within another 5-10 min. you are in the shopping/restaurant scenes in Wilmington. At Christmas time, there were no attractions and few restaurants open--even in Wilmington. Our Resort restaurant was closed from a broken water line. Fortunately, the Holiday Inn, close by, was open and served wonderful meals 3x a day! Their rooms weren't as nice & more $. The staff at the SIR was always accommodating & interested in whatever we had to share when we returned from an outing. What are you paying for? Primarily, the location on prime beach and the sweeping view. What you get in addition is great service and a modestly appointed, but comfortable suite. You get a separate bedroom, 1 and 1/2 baths, a living room/kitchette combo, two TVs, access to a fitness room on your floor an indoor pool and an outdoor hot tub. Yes, the rooms […] are small, the beds are average, no plush duvet. Bring your own kitchen gadgets and cutting knives if you expect to cook. (Kitchenette is more than adequate for heating leftovers and serving snacks and drinks, but challenging for a serious cook.) Bring your own water to drink! We were happy with our accommodation and felt it was a good value, but I would hesitate to pay full rack rate except for prime season. もっと読む

On the 8th floor, a GREAT view of the ocean since the room has windows all along the front. Excellent rate in off season, though breakfast bistro was too expensive. Living room, dinette, kitchenette (fridge lacked ice tray), 2 bathrooms, good beds. Would have helped if front desk had local map which we got at another hotel. Maids friendly.

Spent a long weekend with husb and 2 sons...pleny of room, plenty of privacy, excellent accomodations...only some small maintenance issues made it less than perfect. Great location at the end of the island. Staff was excellent, always accomodating. We'll be back!

This hotel is a very nice romantic getaway, tucked away from the center of Wrightsville Beach. Beautiful sand beach right outside your window. The reason why I gave it a 4 rating is because (1) the beds were way too soft, i.e not very comfortable. The views from this hotel are outstanding BUT the hotel desperately needs a face lift and some heavy duty cleaning. Our room was old and dirty and the bed was pretty uncomfortable, however, the living room faced out to the ocean and the sunrise was just stunning.

What a wonderful overnight stay! Great view of the ocean, friendly staff and amazing room. Will definitely return. Due to the recent hurricane the restaurant wasn't fully operational for lunch and dinner. Breakfast was good.

The location was good, clean rooms. It seems like they are renovating and repairing.

My wife and I went for three nights. Hotel was in a nice location (at the end of the road) so there was plenty of beach and it was only minutes from restaurants. We did not eat at the restaurant onsite but the restaurants nearby were very good (try Tower 7 and the Bluewater Grill). Our room was comfortable and sufficient for a few nights.
