From its beginnings in the late 1800s, Coconut Grove has been a magnet for tycoons, artists, writers, and musicians. Once a city in its own right, this Miami neighborhood now caters to foodies on the search for everything from apple martinis to zeppole. Nearby, Coral Gables displays a striking blend of Spanish colonial and Mediterranean architecture. Its Miracle Mile offers designer shops and art galleries.

"Weekend stay"
The staff was very friendly. The room I had was a bit small and did not have a desk, but this IS a European boutique hotel. All in all, very charming and worth the money if Coral Gables is the area of Miami that you need to be in.

"Miami?"
This took me back to the Swiss mountain inns where I spent much of one summer. Simple, comfortable, understated elegance and authentic charm. There's a reason why this has remained a stronghold in the Gables for decades. Maybe not the best place for a family trip, but my girlfriend and I don't stay anywhere else.
"The best part of Coral Gables"
The hotel doesn't have a restaurant or bar inside. The breakfast isn't anything special, just some reagular breakfast beverages and some croissants/muffins. But that's a moot point since a quick walk down to Miracle Mile or really in any direction a few blocks south, you'll end up with a delicious meal. This hotel is surrounded by nice places to eat […] and drink, making it pretty stupendous to visit. The rooms themselves are incredibly quaint and comfortable. The furniture reminded me of the ... 1920s I guess, and still seemed nice to stay in. The wi-fi was pretty terrible in some areas. もっと読む

"Loved the charm of this hotel"
Wonderful old hotel with beautiful antiques. The charm of the elevator that must be operated by an attendant is unheard of in the States, but I would not advise anyone to stay here if they are always in a hurry (if you call for the elevator on 3, staff in the lobby has to respond to the call and bring the elevator to you - though you can always use […] the stairs immediately). The location is wonderful - near shops and great restaurants. The hotel is vintage, but in wonderful condition and clean. If you like shiny, big and new, do not stay here. I would stay here again without question. もっと読む
"Perfection."
Coral Gables? Felt more like one of the inns I've stayed in travelling through Swiss mountain towns. Old world subtly and charm. Helpful staff. Comfortable and elegant without feeling stuffy and impersonal. Far more romantic than anywhere I've been to in Miami (and I'm a local). You'll never catch me doing a staycation anywhere else again.

"A Quaint Gem in Coral Gables"
The Hotel St. Michel appears to be in a state of transition. Its downstairs restaurant and bar area is currently vacant and looking for a suitor to set up shop there. Its staff also seems largely reduced to a skeleton crew. That said, there is no denying the charm of this European-flavored hotel located just off the Miracle Mile in Coral Gables, an […] affluent Miami suburb that is home to the main campus of the University of Miami. Depending on where you go, South Florida can sometimes seem like a place without a history. Almost no matter how old you are, most places you visit will have been built within your lifetime. The St. Michel is a lovely exception, a genuine marriage of historic South Florida's Spanish-styled architectural influences and the quaint quietness of a Parisian hotel. The rooms are clean and comfortable (although the mattress was not memory foam, as the hotel's description advertised). The WiFi, continental breakfast, and morning copy of The Miami Herald are all complimentary. The amenities do not go too much beyond that, though. Also, visitors looking to be within stumbling distance of South Beach are better off looking elsewhere. However, I consider the St. Michel's remove from the neon and noise a major selling point. The St. Michel offers a fairly reasonable, classy stay in an area of suburban South Florida that still carries a sense of its own history. (It's also a short drive from Calle Ocho and its huge selection of great Cuban eateries.) Especially if you're planning a visit to Miami that is not focused on the typical tourist attractions, it's a great place to set up camp. もっと読む
"Hotel St. Michel - the 1920s today"
Hotel St. Michel was built in the 1920s and the charm of the era is held intact. If you enjoy the period, then you'd enjoy this hotel from top to bottom, furnishings included. It has a period-correct elevator which you must ride once, although it is generally not practical as the stairs are not so overbearing. The area around the hotel is also great […] as it is near the hear of downtown Coral Gables with ample restaurants and other entertainment around. My one complaint, is that the room didn't feel as clean as it could have, especially the shower. Perhaps because of the hardwood floors and other materials that make up the structure of the room it is difficult to ascertain how clean it actually is, but I feel that in this area there is some room for improvement. Do not get me wrong, it did not feel dirty, nor did I feel uneasy at anytime staying there, I just feel it could be better. Other than that, it was a brilliant stay; the staff was wonderful and the hotel's character is charming. I would be more than happy to visit again. もっと読む
"Location & old fashioned charm"
I was hesitant to stay at this hotel since many reviews were not positive, but we travel in many small hotels to enjoy the character. This time we were not disappointed. 10 minutes from the airport on a direct road. On street parking if necessary with meter, otherwise, safe enclosed parking next door. Charming old style entrance right on the street. […] Mosiaics, old furnishings, elevator w/operator otherwise a nice carpeted walk up. Front desk gentleman was so helpful. Real Keys!. Kids used the internet with no fees or problems. Desk printed our boarding passes. Upon arrival our package came with continental breakfast & bottle of wine. The ice bucket was already full. It did not cost extra for either. Simple breakfast of cereal, muffin or croissant, coffee, oj, but adequate for our needs- no complaints. Rooms are small but we knew it would be. We traveled with 2 adult children w/2 double beds. They were clean & comfy. We had the windows open since the weather was nice. Armoire & dressers for clothing. TV & ceiling fan plus in room AC. Nice bathroom. Parquet floors, no room rugs. We were close to our destination of family visits & didn't spend any extra time in hotel. It is on the corner of S Lejuene Rd. so you can go anywhere. There is no restaurant on-site, they are looking for a tenant. It is 2 blocks from the Miracle Mile & perfect for getting back to the airport and any travel east to the bay. No stores within walking distance that we could tell if you want a snack, but not a far drive to convenient stores & gas stations. Nice neighborhood. We stayed over this past weekend so not much activity since a holiday. Easy drive to Coconut Grove, Cutler Rd, Brickell. The price was right for Miami, we were always greeted upon arrival. We would come here again. もっと読む
"Great little spot."
Great location. Historic charm. Alittle old and could use some updates, but see two words preceding this sentence. Miricle Mile is a two block walk. Would stay again.
"Historic Hotel needs to maintain its charm"
I really like the history behind this hotel and the fact that it's located in a great location, but was disappointed in the manner in which the hotel is maintained. Details are everything and this hotel lacks detail in every area. The bathrooms are patched with different color caulking and did not look clean. Bathrooms need to be totally redone and […] proper pillows and blankets provided to guests if you want them to return and rave about the hotel. Poor taste in decorations throughout the hotel. Plastic flowers are out and should never be used in a hotel of this stature. It's a shame that they are letting this lovely building go to waste....A real shame! I was very disappointed and will not recommend this to anyone unless i hear it's turned around. Too bad. もっと読む
"Charming"
This hotel is a landmark since it is the oldest hotel around in the Miami area. The rooms are comfortable, clean, but not modern. The area it is located in is very good. Walking distance to some great eating and drinking places on Miracle Mile. The only downside is that the hotel does not have a restaurant.
"A fantastic find!"
What a find! I travel quite a lot on business and whilst I am bored of the same old chains, I am always a little bit sceptical about trying a smaller boutique hotel in fear of a bad experience. This hotel is a real gem - nice clean comfortable rooms equiped with free high speed internet access with one off pieces of antique furniture throughout. A real […] break from the norm - would certainly recommend. もっと読む

"Fantastic Historic Hotel"
Great older hotel with lots of character. Room was a little small but very cozy, staff were nice and old fashioned elevator is very cool.
"Hotel St Michel - a step into the past"
A must see/stay for antique lovers. Meticulously maintained, full of charming furniture and memorabilia. The elevator has an operator, two manual doors and a crank! We got an actual key! On the downside, the mattress was not too comfortable, the wifi was iffy and the restaurant was closed. But there are plenty of places to eat well into walking distance. […] Overall, a real experience! もっと読む
"Charming Place"
If you are looking for a hotel that is unique and with character, then the St. Michele is for you. You can't beat the location of this hotel, either, as it is only 3 blocks from the great shops and restaurants on the infamous Miracle Mile in Coconut Grove. I would definitely stay there again in the future.

"Hotel St. Michel- nice throwback to the 1920's"
The hotel was very clean, the service was great, and it has a unique little old school niche in the middle of a contemporarily fashioned city. There were three things that may bother some people though. The rooms were fairly small, there are no bells and whistles inside the hotel, and the restaurant downstairs is vacant. There are several nice bars […] and restaurants within walking distance though. For the price of the room, overall I would go there again if I needed to stay in Coral Gables! もっと読む
"Wonderful Gem in Coral Gables"
Admittedly, I'm a fan of the 20s and 30s and this 1926 buidling fed my voracious appetite for that period. This should be protected and preserved for all time. The beauty of the building, the gorgeous tile work, the charming lobbys with pianos and the restaurant space with it's art deco lights and elegant european/old time american feel took me back! […] I'm always saying that elegance is truly lacking in modern america. Well, the St. Michel has it in spaids. The hotel, and it's rooms are decorated in antiques that range from charming to spectacular. The bathroom was modernized and very comfy. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. The antique otis elevator is a fantastic piece. I adored riding in it. The only problem I had with the place was that the room didn't have an iron or ironing board, but I was told one could be sent up. I WILL stay in the St. Michel again. I look forward to it. I do hope some restaurateur will take over the now empty restaurant. It's really beautiful. What a shame to see it empty. もっと読む
"Cramped, inconvenient charm"
Lots of reviews mention the "European charm" of this hotel, and I'll agree that it LOOKS very charming. However, I also expect some conveniences, and Hotel St. Michel doesn't deliver. The charming furniture is of such low quality, I needed 2 hands (at least) just to open the dresser drawers, and I had to use the luggage rack to prop open and keep closed […] the armoire that serves as the only closet. At its widest, my triangle-shaped room was wide enough for a queen bed and 2 small nightstands. It narrowed from there 'til it was just wide enough for a small sink in the bathroom. Above the sink, a small shelf was the ONLY place to put any personal toiletries. The bathroom was so cramped, I had to walk sideways to get to the sink, and I am a slender, petite woman. I don't see how a normal-sized or larger person could use the commode without their knees hitting the wall. Luckily I stayed on a low floor, because the first and only time we used the elevator, it stopped several inches above the floor. Worst of all, there was a fine, white dust on many of the bathroom fixtures. The front desk claimed it was from recent repairs and offered to move me, but that doesn't explain why the dust wasn't cleaned up. I ended up cleaning my own bathroom--not what I expect to do in a hotel--and if I hadn't noticed the dust, it may have gotten on my clothes or into my toothpaste, etc. It also shows that "normal" cleaning of the bathroom isn't adequate. On the positive side, the bed was very comfortable, and the free Continental breakfast isn't bad, although no food had been put out a half hour after it started one morning. I had to leave before it arrived. もっと読む

"Hotel St. Michel in Coral Gables"
Stay somewhere else. Bad hotel. Hotel was creepy and smelled like old dead people. Room was way to small and I hated the bedroom furniture. I won't mention the creepy painting over the bed that stared at you from every direction. Overall dislike. Not worth more than $50 a night. I've stayed at better Super 8s!
"Nice, low-key older hotel Coral Gables"
The St. Michel is an older (1920s vintage) and very charming property in Miami's Coral Gables district. I went there for a week on a business trip, and enjoyed it overall. My room was clean, there was free WiFi that worked, and the location was convenient to my business - all important things for me. The front desk staff were very kick back. Not at […] all unfriendly (as I experience more often than not in southern Florida) but very relaxed and not going out of their way to help you or suggest things, unless you asked them first. That was just fine with me. I had the feeling that there was never much going on in the public areas of the hotel (lobby, restaurant, bar). The restaurant and bar were closed every time I passed through. That again was absolutely OK with me as I prefer to take my food and drink away from the hotel, but your mileage may vary. The immediately surrounding neighborhood is a business district full of high-rise office buildings - so don't expect a stupendous view out of your window. Mine looked down on the roof of some factory or printing press. But you're within 5-7 minutes' walking distance from the Miracle Mile which has a great selection of restaurants and cafes, and another street a couple of blocks away that's even closer, which is full of restaurants. There's also a free trolley which will take you down to Miracle Mile in a couple of minutes if you're not inclined to walk. I think the trolley only operates on weekdays. The negatives were all minor. I asked for an ironing board to be put in my room, and the maid took it away every day, which necessitated me asking for it again every day. Mildly annoying. The elevator was the old-fashioned manual type, so you needed to get an employee to help you use it. I was on the third floor and didn't even use the elevator after I checked in. But I don't mind using the stairs unless I have heavy luggage, which I didn't. Overall I had a good experience at the St. Michel and would go back and stay there もっと読む
"The St Michel, good location, but ....."
The St Michel is located in beautiful Coral Gables but my room was dank, musty, smelled of cleaning products and i could hear all the sounds that the stairway and hallways could create. The elevator is ancient so the stairway was busier than most. Its kind of a old European hotel amongst a neighborhood of much newer buildings, but it lacked any cha […] rm. もっと読む

This is a good hotel for someone who likes an alternative to modern glitz. It is small, cozy and filled with period pieces from the 1920's and 1930's (having been founded in 1926). However, it is dark inside; the views from the rooms are onto concrete buildings next door. For these reasons, I found the place depressing.

"Great location, old-world style"
This hotel is very reasonably priced for it's upscale Coral Gables neighborhood. If you're willing to forego modern amenities like in-room refridgerator and coffee maker, and on-site fitness facility, for the charm and ambiance of a well-restored European-style hotel, this is the place for you. Even though the room was small, with only a queen bed, […] nightstands, wardrobe and dresser, it did have a nice flat-screen TV and internet service. The mattress and pillows were uncomfortable, and should be replaced. The bathroom was also small with old fixtures, but everything functioned well. We did worry about the toilet which rocked when you sat on it, but it worked. Parking is available in a garage across the street for a reasonable, discounted daily rate. もっと読む
Gracious "hosts".
"Quaint but Overpriced"
Decor was unique and fun. Fruit basket was disappointing (2 apples and 2 oranges) as was the lack of the complimentary newspaper. Staff was very friendly.
"Hotel St. Michel: A Vintage Gem in Coral Gables"
My last visit to the St. Michel was over 20 years ago, and much to my relief, this eccentric small hotel has changed little. If you favor antiques, the patina of age with a bit of charming funk, this is your place. Ride the hand-operated elevator or use the friendly, creaky stairs and enjoy the art on your way. Our room was splendidly decorated with […] antiques and art along with wi-fi, flat screen TV and typical modern conveniences. There was some disinfectant odor when upon arrival, which dissipated with a brief airing out. (This is why I graded the room '4' rather than '5'.) The staff was helpful, friendly and refreshingly un-corporate. There is metered parking along one side of the hotel, or inexpensive valet parking at a garage across the street. I can't evaluate the restaurant, as we had all our meals out. I will certainly stay at the St. Michel again, as I felt not like a tourist, but like a temporary resident of the beautiful city of Coral Gables. もっと読む

"Europe amidst modernity"
I loved this hotel. For the price, it provided great atmosphere. From the antique furniture throughout the hotel, the artwork, the classic old Otis elevator that was man/woman operated, the cafe with included breakfast, the ambience was fabulous. A block from all the shopping and restaurants was great as well. The only drawback was the smell. The cleaning […] solutions they used created an odor that was mildly unpleasant. Someone who is really sensitive to that would be unhappy. For me, if it were in any other place, would have been more of a problem. But in the atmosphere of this lovely pension styled hotel, I was willing to overlook it. However, if they read this, it would be great if they would switch to more organic solutions. Then this place would be perfect. Highly recommended. もっと読む

"Quaint boutique hotel in a quiet and convenient location"
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Hotel St. Michel. The staff was courteous, attentive, and the service prompt and impeccable. "Huge Expectations, Big Let Down"
Reading the reviews on Hotels.com I was geeked up to see Hotel St. Michel. I planned a romantic weekend for my husband's birthday and I was really disappointed. Starting with arriving at the hotel there was no parking at the building we had to park across the street and carry our luggage. The receptionist did not offer us any help. The set up outside […] the hotel could use work. There were old tables outside that were not being used (so I didn't see the purpose for them). The lobby and restaurant could use work. The most exciting thing was the old fashioned elevator. Our room was small. That's an understatement. The bed wasn't much bigger than a twin sized bed. The floors were old and felt unsecure. My husband thanked me for wanting to try something new but he said he would prefer modern hotels. The bathroom was small and the shower was rusted. The sink had a slow leak. All in all I was geared up for a great romantic getaway and I was disappointed. もっと読む
